I'm wondering what fixed clamps I should/could get for my machine.

I have an Alpha Revo on the way, and I held back on badminton fixed clamps. They are much more important for tennis so I kept the tennis ones and I've always used flying clamps to great success so temporarily being without them seemed alright to me.

The main reason I held back is because I thought there may be other options out there. After all, most machines are similar in size and the fixed clamp is just a metal rod secured by the base, no real mechanism.

Does know of other badminton fixed clamps other than Alpha's that fit, and would recommend me?

I know there are some Eagnas ones that look pretty sweet. http://eagnas.com/maxgen1/pn1013.html

    Thanks guys!

I guess you're moving away from the LF machine to something quicker? Business must be good =) I'm sure you'll be able to find a buyer fairly quickly for your laserfibre if you were to ever switch machines....

    Congrats to your new machine

I ordered one of these and they do fit the Alpha Revo. The one I got flattens the string when you clamp them. If you adjust them so that it doesn't flatten the string, the string slips. With some cleaning and careful adjustment, it's workable, but I'm not too confident with it. You can borrow the springs from your tennis clamps to use with these. I didn't bother to bring the issue up with Eagnas having read how their CS sucks. I just tried to resolve the problem on my own. I guess it's hit or miss when you order from Eagnas... I remember reading in another thread that DinkAlot's clamps don't flatten the string and doesn't slip. Hope this helps. Good luck.

    Thanks guys.

Can't complain. The Laserfibre took about 5 minutes to get a buyer, literally!

Business was pretty good although for the moment, I'm being rather selective about who I string for due to the extremely tight schedule I have. Taking on the responsibility of being the captain and coach of the school team is quite demanding. I merely string for myself and friends just to help out I guess. We all have the peace of mind that no funny business is going on with our racquets. I'm changing the machine mainly for the supports rather than the speed. I mean stringing for a year and a half, I've developped some pretty consistent stringing technique but you never know what you get sometimes. Sometimes the racquet comes out perfect, sometimes ridiculously warped sometimes in between. Luckily I haven't broken anything but then again I've been extremely careful because I didn't feel secure. The added speed and easier prestringing was also attractive.

Can you guys give more details about this moving the tensioner business? I doubt it'll work for me since I also do tennis, but I'd like to know.

Back on topic, I can't really seem to find much difference between all these fixed clamps. Maybe they're quite similar in quality. The only difference is the Eagnas ones. They have that nice rounded shape. Is it purely for aesthetics or is there more to it?

Eagnas tried to copy Babolat's rounded side but quality is night and day.

In terms of moving the tensioner, it might work. You need time to work out a blue print and lots of modification involved: include sawing off both ends of the new turntable like Master Dan and installing the LF tensioner on the new machine . . . etc.

Yeah, the ECO version doesn't have a central support so variation is a lot more than the TT.

Pete....According to his post, Fishmilk sold his LF machine. Would've been an interesting modification to see the LF tensioner on a 6 pt machine.

Although I've only had my LaserFibre machine since September 2006 (strung about ~75 rackets), based on your comments it sounds like you weren't clamping down the supports tight enough to keep the racket from warping during stringing. I have not yet noticed any serious/unusual/"ridiculous" warping in the rackets that I've strung. Similar to Pete and yourself (i recall from previous posts) that you use old overgrip as load spreaders between the supports and clamps. You should be able to tighten them fairly well w/o any risk to damaging the racket (I've seen in person how Pete tightens them).

There may be one significant difference that may be a factor in the warping issues is that the supports you use are different from the modifications that Pete had made (which i had also followed).

Any ways.. As Pete had mentioned in another thread...dealing with LaserFibre customer service has gone way down :(

    Bad experience with Eagnas

    Hi all,
I recently had a bad experience with Eagnas. I simply asked them for an owner's manual because the new machine didn't come with one. In return i was shocked to hear she called an idiot. So i sent her a very nasty email ( uncensored email upon on request ). Here is the back and fore email.

    Hi,
Sorry we had lost the invoice.
The machine might have been purchased under my son's name " Darren .... ".
Before we boughted the Eagnas machine, we had heard good things about the machine and bad things about the service after. Now i know why, all i'm asking for is an owner's manual. ( Each new machine should come with one ).

I have a problem. The string keeps popping on me. Granted it is a .66 mm Ashaway MP, but I don't think it should be breaking on me. I broke 3 packs in total, I know I should've tried with cheaper string but I don't want to string and then have to restring, plus I've used a crank before and I know how to string, I don't know why.

First time I had everything prestrung and it popped on the second or third main to the right. Then I figured maybe the fixed clamps were too tight and clipped the string. I spent a good while adjusting the fixed clamps so that they wouldn't flatten the string while holding it at 30lbs. The very last tie-off main going through B10 popped twice.

    Hmm... interesting...
Did you use this string on your LF machine at this tension as well?
I dont want to hazard a guess, but sounds like you're right that your clamps may be squashing the string causing it to tear apart prematurely :(

Sorry I'm not much help, i have not tried the mp string from ashaway, and unaware of its characteristics; in regards to stretching quality & overall durability.
Perhaps others who have tried the string, can weigh in on the situation?

Yes I've used this string on my Laserfibre before. The funny thing is... when I used it, when I was starting the crosses, I forgot to make an extra loop for the starting knot since the string was so thin. The whole thing went inside the grommet so I tied another starting knot for safe measure. When I repulled the first main, the string popped, luckily I had enough string since it was the crosses.

So far I have two speculations. One is that the string is so brittle it's damaged during prestretching I do. That explains why of 5 string jobs, 3 broke on the end of the piece of string. The other 2 probably broke because I didn't adjust the fixed clamps properly at first but I took a lot of time to adjust it afterwards and the problem didn't seem to be with the fixed clamps.

The other is that perhaps my crank isn't calibrated. I remember stories on the forum about people recieving their machine calibrated 20+ lbs higher than the meter.

I've been using the .66mm MP Ti string bought from mybadmintonstore for the past ~3 months. Though i haven't had any problems with string snapping during stringing (using my Egnas ST250, i don't prestretch strings), though i've had lots more string breakages than normal during playing. I find these strings even more fragile than the BG66 I used to use.
