http://www.thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2007/3/21/sports/20070321154924&sec=sports READ this and tell us who in the badminton wolrd deserve this award. LinDan? Taufik? or even KKK-TBH? Sports is a wide field, but does anyone in badminton world deserve this award?
WHY??? Zheng Bo/Gao Ling had won 3 Super series + German Open! That's more than what KKK/TBH has done this year. 100% winning record... and nobody can top that at the moment.
I see. Sorry for didnt noticing that, havent got much interest in those events. Maybe the difference is that it has been too long for a really dominant MD pair to emerge in the badminton arena and winning the highly rated tournaments consistently like Ricky/Rexy (MD has been a competitive event compared to others, it is the hardest to master), and dont forget they have been paired up for about 6 months only and has done lots of amazing upsets. Just check out their ranking now. And not mentioning to do all these achievements at the age of 20 (average) only. Malaysians are really proud of them. We've waited so long for "The One".......
why Taufik? Did he even play this year? I'd vote Lin Dan, he's been the most consistant winner of the last 3 years...
gold medal winners only Sorry, I realised that the requirement is that the nominees have to be Asian Games Gold medal winners. It can be any sports.
owh really?? kkk/tbh n taufik might have big chance... kkk/tbh came back frm dead after team's event to win every match in straight sets and taufik showed great determination after losing to LD twice in team event and en route to individual GOld...
For Asian sportswoman of the year, Nicol David, a double world squash champion and an Asian Games gold medalist, is a serious contender.
In the norm, the award is probably for the calendar year of 2006. KKK/TBH and ZB/GL were only active very late in the year, so you can discount them. Furthermore, from the article only Asian Games gold medallists are eligible, so Lin Dan is out as well. Taufik is eligible but is his achievement in 2006 worth the Asian top award? Similarly for Wang Chen. So for badminton, the only ones with a chance are Gao Ling/Huang Sui, but I think it's slim. From Malaysia, the brightest chance comes from Nicol David, Asian Games gold medallist, Asian champion, World champion, World #1, undefeated since February, but is squash big enough a sport?
yes... y not.... plus is the first Asian woman to win the World title and world #1 ranking.... big chance i see... ;p
ya i agree that nicol david has a big chance too. she's really great n cool. she remains unbeaten for 40 matches and has 17 WISPA titles.wohoo. amazing maybe esther cheah has a chance too winning a few golds in asian for bowling and winnner of world championship individual title. for men i think swimmer park tae hwon(sori donno how to spell his name) who won the best athelete in AG also stands a chance
I think you need to excel in the international level as well as the Asian level to stand a chance. Nicol David stands a chance. So does Esther Cheah (forgot about her) but Nicol was way more dominant. Other prospects are: Chinese paddlers Chinese divers Korean archers Liu Xiang - Chinese hurdler maybe Park Ji Sung of Man Utd or Yao Ming of Houston Rockets Yan/Zheng (probably in team category) won 2 Grand Slams I think Probably missed out some important ones.
