it is a pity that he has to retire. i have quiet enjoyed watching him and Zheng Bo's combination back in 2004. but unfortunately while he is an excellent player, he is always injured. good luck to him in the future.

Yea right, he has been absence from the international circuit for long, we don't see much of him last yr and 2005.... meaning he is already much done in the Chinese team by then...forced to retire at age 24, Oh man!! What a pity. All the best to him as coach then, which usually a retired pro does...

damn, so young and he has to retire...If I remember correctly, he already injured his waist once during the WC03, never healed completely? or did he injure himself again after that?
I thought they were a good pair to watch, he was the "playmaker" in the sang/zheng partnership, awesome anticipation skills and defense.

LYB does not want free passenger in China team. If he is injured, LYB will kick him out. very cruel of the China team

I think the fact he stayed in the CHN National Team for so long whilst being injured, shows he was a respected player in the team.

Also, he will not play for his province team at the end of the year, so this should show he has a terminal injury even with the lighter training in province.

then why Zhou Mi retired? because of injury right? every player who is injured for too long cannot stay too long in the national team.

Zhou Mi was "injured" and retired straight away. Sang Yang for almost 3 years on and off.

Zhou Mi Still plays for Province team (Guangxi). Sang Yang will not.

Zhou Mi Moved to MAS and HK to train and play. I doubt Sang Yang Will.

ZM's case and SY's outcome is the same, but the cases IMO are very different.

Also any player, from any country in any national team and is injured for too long will leave.

A national team is gets money from its government to perform well in tournaments. It is not a good use of this money to support athletes who cannot perform, or are unlikely to in the future. It is a shame for the player involved, but not cruel on the part of the team manager.
