NEWS : SwissOpen07 : Lin Dan retires from semifinal!
In the first Men's Singles semifinals the number 1 seed, Lin Dan, CHN
was up against Simon Santoso, INA, who came to the Main Draw via the
Qualifying event!
In the first game they went hand in hand until the score was 12-10 in
favour of Lin Dan. Both performed subtle shots but all the time with Lin
Dan setting the pace! Simon Santoso were 2 match points down before he
himself had unumerous match points giving him the first game 27-25! In
the last fases of the first fases Lin Dan sent a lot of shuttles out.
At 1-0 in favour of Santoso Lin Dan put his hands to the side of his
back, turned to the Umpire and said he was in pain. Referee was called
over toether with the Doctor, and after some discussion Lin Dan decided
to try and go on.
It was very clear he couldn't go up in smashes and after 4 more points
Lin Dan went to the net, shook hands with Santoso - and retired
5-0............in second.

here's a picture.
This Swiss open is pretty good, at least in providing prompt information and video streaming to the Internet. Thank them for great job. I really enjoy watching those online real time videos.

Hope it's nothing series. LD is probably pushing himself quite a bit from the continuous play.

From www.badzine.info... Even the German's doctor examine Lin Dan's injury and claimed that it is valid and not a fake injury like some people would say.
I was hoping that Gade would claim his second super-series title, since LD is now out of this tournament... but too bad Peter lost to Chen Jin. Peter has been around long enough for the Chinese to basically know his game so well.Last edited by bananaboy; 03-17-2007 at 05:59 PM.

Apparently he got a hematoma (bruise) from playing badminton. Either he had a bad dive or he pushed himself so hard his muslces started to bleed!

Sorry to hear about Lin Dan, happy for Simon, must have been an exciting first set. But Lin Dan has just been playing so many tournaments non-stop. He was bound to get an injury of some sort eventually. Hope he recovers quickly

I hope LD will soon recover.
Here's hoping he's able to play Singapore super series.
Maybe he would not join in Yonex-Sunrise Asian Continental Championships .
good luck!!!!!!!!

I used to be able to say that about Chen Hong but he recently retired from the professional world of badminton.
Taufik is not motivated to try or even enter at all in the past couple of tournaments.
Lee Chong Wei seems to be at a low point of his career which explains why he hasn't performed since the 2006 Hong Kong/Macau Open.
Peter Gade is getting too old to be performing at his peak all the time. (This is why I hope he doesn't win the next few tournaments to save his strength & peak at the World Championships this year.)

injury
In badminton, it can me excessive interms of impact. In other words, What goes up must comes down. It just shows that its not easy to stay on top. Looks like there'll be a change of champions soon, eg like the MD, Mix, etc...
Importantly, the game must be entertaining with dramas like Taufik or epl.
rgds
Else no kick.

I hope he will be better soon and think he didn't fake.
That was an accident, nobody wanted it.
But I'm glad that Simon won this match.
Hope he will be lucky tomorrow when he meets Chen Jin.

yes, it would be a good test for chen jin to battle an upcoming INA players, to see how ready CJ for the 08 OG.
To be on top, one has to fight off many oppositions.

Try not to insult Simon. You think Simon beat LD through luck? Simon played 3 extra MSQ matches more than LD. The fact that Simon, a young gun, survived 2 MP against a 3-years long World No 1, indicates he's tough under pressure. Will he have the stamina to outlast CJ, the World No 2 with the shaky net play?
