Barulah ketika keduanya menjuarai turnamen besar Malaysia Super Series, Swiss Terbuka, dan All England Super Series, orang mulai yakin bahwa gelar juara di Doha bukan sekadar kebetulan.Ketika Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong merebut medali emas di Asian Games Doha 2006, mungkin belum banyak yang memperkirakan ganda Malaysia ini akan menjadi pasangan yang sangat berbahaya. Barulah ketika keduanya menjuarai turnamen besar Malaysia Super Series, Swiss Terbuka, dan All England Super Series, orang mulai yakin bahwa gelar juara di Doha bukan sekadar kebetulan.

    Sayangnya, setelah itu prestasi mereka justru menurun. Bahkan sang pelatih asal Indonesia, Rexy Mainaky, sempat jengkel dibuatnya. Setelah sekitar empat bulan paceklik gelar, ganda nomor dua dunia ini diharapkan bisa kembali berjaya pada turnamen Filipina Terbuka di Manila, 17-22 Juli. Kebetulan mereka menjadi unggulan teratas di sana.

    Lawan terberat diperkirakan datang dari unggulan kedua asal Indonesia/AS, Candra Wijaya/Tony Gunawan. Mereka juga mewaspadai ganda klub Djarum, Sigit Budiarto/Fran Kurniawan, dan pasangan pelatnas, Joko Riyadi/Hendra Gunawan.

    ''Latihan kami baik-baik saja. Pelatih telah menghabiskan banyak waktu bersama kami, terutama untuk meningkatkan kondisi fisik. Kami tak ikut Thailand Terbuka dan China Masters. Target kami adalah bermain baik di Filipina Terbuka,'' ujar Kien Keat seperti dirilis The Star.

    Lee Lagi

    Sementara itu di tunggal Malaysia mengandalkan Lee Chong Wei untuk merebut gelar di Filipina. Di sana, juara Indonesia Super Series itu ditempatkan sebagai unggulan kedua setelah Chen Hong asal Cina, yang kini tampil atas nama pribadi. Lee diharapkan bisa mengulang suksesnya di Jakarta, Mei silam, terutama bila kembali bertemu lawan yang sama di final Indonesia Super Series, Bao Chunlai dari Cina.

    Lawan berat lain buat Lee adalah andalan Indonesia, Taufik Hidayat, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, dan Simon Santoso, serta Lee Hyun-il dari Korsel. Selain Lee, Malaysia juga mengandalkan pengantin baru, Moh. Hafiz Hashim dan abangnya, Moh. Roslin Hashim, Wong Choong Hann, Yeoh Kay Bin, dan Kuan Beng Hong. (yuk/bolanews.com)

    If I'm not wrong, he is the coach for Pb Djarum junior players.
