i have a nanospeed 8000 but its 2u, is it becuz its made with different material, or is something added onto the racquet that makes it different from the 3u version? or maybe the head is made heavier? any insights would be appreciated

Some ppl like it light some like it heavy. Ns8k 2u is structurally stronger than 3u can string to higher tension.

the racquet overall is heavier by a few grams, generally 5grams? It is still head light. They are made in 2 different weight classes 2U and 3U, so that buyers can have their choice of preference.

i assume that if the racket is heavier therefore more material is used. if so , where would the extra material be?

Personally i feel that just that extra 5grams on the racket makes a great difference. I have tried 3U and 4U rackets. Both plays differently. I am very particular on my racket being 3U. =)

could be true. the diff in diameter of the two diff light n heavy rackets might be too small to notice if it is evenly distributed. has anyone measured the dimensions of the shaft etc of a same racket in two diff weights. just to understand the concept of more material being used.
