    Hey everyone -

Well, since I started playing about 4 years ago now (approx.) I have noticed that my thighs seem bigger than all my friends that, obviously relating to the topic, don't play badminton as much as me. I just wondered whether this was normal, because of muscle build in my legs whilst training?

    Thanks,

    R x

    Perfectly Natural!!

    Hey Ya!!

Yeah its perfectly natural that your thighs will get bigger, cus badminton is a sport that is really dependent on your leg muscles (e.g. lunges), espically for the thighs. You should only worry if your thighs get bigger and your not doing anything :p

yup. legs muscles are much bigger than arms. even LD and Bao Chunlai exhibt this. it only looks out of proportion if you're muscles in your arms are really skinny though, otherwise, it won't look wrong. also, your abdominal and core muscles should be very strong

Professional badminton players come in a wide range of body types, so comparing yourself to everyone else is a bit misleading.

There are lean and defined players like Lin Dan and Nathan Robertson, hugely muscular players like the Indonesian men's pairs, and decidely ordinary-looking players like Ant Clark. Very defined legs (thighs and calves) do seem to be a common trait, though.

Ladies may be concerned that playing badminton will make thighs thick. I'd say check out photos of Zhang Ning, XXF, ZYW on BC; they all have nice legs IMO, despite being top WS or XD players.

I used to play rugby before i started playing badminton so i already had large thighs and calf muscles (i've never floated in a swimming pool). I stopped playing rugby about a year before starting badminton and my thigh seem to be getting back into shape. Still can't jump smash though (that may be to do with the extra weight i'm carrying).

yeah i know... but whenever they called it tree trunks, i'll pull up my shorts and show them them my rippling thigh and calf muscles and they will always go  and the girls would surely go :crying:

As muscular as they are, badminton thighs should not look like the thighs of a speed skater or cyclist (velodrome style).
