    POPLAR Badminton Academy provides badminton
coaching for juniors and adults of all playing abilities
in the Warwickshire area. Our goal is to build up
sport in the community and provide a great service to
badminton. We are sponsered by Ashaway and our coach Steve has won the volnteer of the year award.

( "Congratulations to Steve Kiernan for coming Runner Up in the Yonex Young Volunteer of the Year Award 2006!
Steve and Alan have put so many hours over the last year into Poplar Badminton Academy and this can be proved by the huge success in all the sessions.

The academy, coaches and members are now being rewarded for the hard work and effort from everyone involved." )

Once upon a time in a land not so far from your own lived two beings. One was named Alan Wong and the other named Steve Kiernan. They lived their life happily with other beings in their land. The two beings enjoyed playing a game called badminton where you hit goose feathers and a cork over a net to each other.

On one occasion they sat down to have a little chat about their plans in life. Steve had ideas to set up more badminton coaching classes for children whilst Alan had ideas of setting badminton coaching classes for Adult beginners. As they thought about things, they agreed instead of going into competition with each other, they would join forces and create the best badminton academy for the people on Planet Earth. So Alan got all his business experience together and Steve collected all his coaching experience together and they started to build a small academy setting up the first class on Friday evenings for children and adults. The two of them then merged a previous junior class to the academy and from there they set up more classes.

They were shocked to find out how many people on Earth wanted to play this game. The demand was huge, so they were forced to set up many more coaching sessions to accommodate the interest of the Earthlings. As the number of classes grew so did the standard of players. The players now wanted to play competitive games so Alan and Steve entered the academy into the local leagues and various tournaments to build up the team.

The two then decided “life isn’t just about badminton”. They didn’t want the academy just to be badminton, badminton, badminton and so they arranged social events and different activities to keep the Earthlings happy.

Martyn Fenn and James Cassidy joined the coaching team, giving the academy more expertise and more chance to expand the ever growing number of classes.

The future will see Poplar Badminton Academy moving up the rankings in the leagues. More coaching sessions available to everyone around the area. More fun social events. New fitness classes will be set up for members and non-members wishing to build their health and fitness.

What you have seen of the academy so far is nothing compared to what the academy is becoming and will become. Keep your eyes open as the future is now..........actually it’s now!

    You aint seen nothing yet!
