Why is Chinese Taipei (TAIWAN!) Open back down to 3*? What happened to the funding from Yonex? How insulting...

Why would you think it is the responsibility of Yonex to keep this Open alive? Taiwan is a country full of rich corporations; the organizers should knock on their doors to seek sponsorship. It's not healthy for badminton in general to have Yonex sponsor too many tournaments

Well, that may be true, but so are many of the other countries whom have tournaments that are sponsored by Yonex. I mean, I'm all up for diversity, but people are used to the brand name appeal of Yonex and the name brings a certain prestige to the tournament. But hey, if any big corporation wants to come in and save the day, be my guest.

I think the tournament organizers have to be proactive in terms of searching for sponsors instead of having the Yonex safety net. Yes there are many tournaments supported by Yonex but that doesn't mean it's necessarily OK. An example of a tournament that draws well every year that's not sponsored by Yonex is the upcoming Aviva Singapore Open. They must be doing something right to attract the best players and be well attended. Ultimately, the burden of responsibility falls on the organizers.

The Super Series are so far quite ok, with 4 out of 6 having corporate sponsors other than Yonex:
    Proton Malaysia Open
    Yonex Korea Open
    Yonex All England Open
    Wilson Swiss Open
    Aviva Singapore Open
    Djarum Indonesia Open

Based on BWF Calendar YONEX Chinese Taipei 2007 is one of Grand Prix Gold Series which provide total prize-money USD.170,000, the highest compare than THA-PHI-IND and Macao GP Gold.

When BWF launched the Super Series, Chinese Taipei Open was left out. No matter how much prize money the tournament offers, it cannot be a Super Series event at least for this year. Similarly, if it hosts a tennis tournament and offers US$100 million prize money, it cannot be a Grand Slam event.

FYI, there is no star-system anymore. Now it's the gp system based. The Taipei open is actually just a step lower than the SS; not bad at all.

wow..very powerful force..I guess China feels that they need to build the bridge as Taiwan is part of china ( from china's point of view)...CHN at least will get 4 or 5 titles....

    Zhang Jiewen/ Yang Wei

i hope that Zhang Jiewen / Yang Wei would be given the opportunity to play after the WC07. Their effort, hardworks should be at least be consider by LYB. imagine, having little time to prepare for WC07, still they won the title. This is not easy. =-)

yes. GP Gold is equivalent to a 4* tournament in terms of prize money.

I thought Zhang Jun/ZTT combination doing not so bad. Then ZTT pair with Xu Chen again. Really confusing. Poor ZTT. In one year, she already pair with ZB, Zhang Jun and then Xu Chen.

I think Zhang Jun suffered an injury during the China Open. He was paired with Zheng Bo in the men's double and retired before reaching the semi-finals.

They have been the original pair. Zhang Jiewen was temporarily paired to Gao Ling during the absence of Huang Sui while Yang Wei was paired to Zhao Tingting. I think they were the women's double champion in the last Asian games.
