Hey, I've heared that the shuttle speed is much faster in CAlgary than in other provinces because of the altitude of the city. To any of the forum members that have travelled to Calgary, how much faster is it and is it hard to adjust?
I'm from calgary, thou, I never play anywhere else then my hometown. so I couldnt' tell you how much faster it is compare to TO, or Van....or else where.
Oh yes I'm sure you guys must use slow shuttles lolz, but I heared the feeling of the bird is still much faster than anywhere else...
sorry sir, but calgary requires speed 75 edit: 76 is still a tad too speedy, and often need to tip the feathers
sorry I have not seen 74's, 75's were the slowest offered by the OEM's I spoke with lol edit: I forget how the other speeds measurement scales were, but speed 75, is rated as speed 1 (or 48) on one of the other scales? I cant remember, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes, it works out fine. If you bring your speed 78's to Calgary, then yes... the shuttle will literally fly out the court with a mere tap. And if speed 75's are brought to the coastal areas, you'd be lucky to see it get half court, let alone the net from your baseline edit: ok maybe not quite that drastic, but you get the idea...
yeah, you need 75's or if you so have 76, you'll be tipping the feathers. I have a couple tubes of 78 for when I travel to vancouver and they are like rockets, even when you tip each feather. I order the hi-qua shuttles in speed 48 or 49. We had 48s for my annual tounament and once the gym warmed up a bit, they were perfect. The 49 we a bit fast - I tend use them in winter when the gym is little colder. We are high altitude (330 ft) and very dry. To give you some context, the 48s are "Colorado rated". I had a couple when I was at VRC and the guys could barely get 3/4 court with their clears hitting as hard as they could.
problem is every company (or even batches) have different standard for the certain speed outside their normal production speeds (77,78). I have tried many 75's (48's) and most of them are still too fast. The 48's used in the strathmore tourney i think is about 73 to 74 speed. It is the lightest shuttles that i ever tried. They weighed around 4.6-4.65 g. Since they are colorado rated, that's why those '48's' are a slower in calgary but in a heated gym, they are about right. Denver's airport is 5280 feet elevation. Calgary is only 3000 to 3300 ft. Calgary speed should be 74 or 47 if consistent standard is used. 75 = 48 74 = 47 73 = 46
