Bob Malayathong and Howard Bach actually responded to this commercial. There was actually an article about Bob Malayathong in an article of the Baltimore sun!
There opinion was that the commercial would get people talking and informed about badminton, that it would get some much needed publicity for our sport. They said they have gotten some negative feedback from there commercial but thats just it people watch it and it gets them talking.
The reason Bob Malayathong was in the baltimore sun was because he is a native of rockville and they wanted to have an article about him and his olympic pursuits and how hes one of the few major badminton players of now to come from the U.S.
    Badminton needs publicity.

Sad, sad, sad That is after Howard won the World Championship in 2005. He is more than qualify to star in that commercial. At minimum, should be able to call himself "Howard" and not "Yang".

I think that really is the idea.
Anyone can see that that Ad and say that it was meant to be something funny...although i did not find it hilarious.
People of US think that Baddy is a backyard sport any way so anything is a plus.

I think they were trying to impersonate the chinese mens doubles team. That way they would not be making fun of themselves.

The commercial hurt me when I first watched it. Also, it bothered me how some people really think badminton is an "easy" sport.

If easy, then you don't need extra energy source to help you to win.

If to show badminton is easy, they should show 90 old man, can beat the OG champion, w/o drinking anything.

Since when did Howard Bach and Tony Gunawan become Yang and Lau?

It's not just a bad commercial... it's an incredibly stupid production as well.
Maybe those who made it previously drank some of that vitamin water

Exclamation Bad News for Coke's Vitaminwater

If you're one of those who like Coke's Vitaminwater, be careful you don't drink these flavours - Rescue, Energy, B-relaxed, Vital-T, Balance & Power-C.

Apparently, these flavours contain banned substances!

You can read the whole story at Adage.com.

Here's an extract from Natalie Zmuda's report dated 10 Feb 2009:

Vitaminwater Runs Afoul of NCAA Banned-Substances Rule
Major College-Sports Sponsor Has Six Flavors Players Shouldn't Drink

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Coca-Cola's Vitaminwater is a major marketing partner for the NCAA -- but its players shouldn't drink six of its varieties or they might test positive for banned substances.

Coca-Cola is considered an NCAA "Corporate Champion," having signed an 11-year, $500 million deal in 2003.

Revive is the only flavor that is directly affiliated with the NCAA, and it does not contained banned or impermissible substances. Another eight flavors are available on a by-request basis to players. The NCAA website states the six flavours that include impermissible substances do not have a direct association with the NCAA, and in situations where they are displayed alongside NCAA-themed promotions a visible disclaimer will be provided.

The Rescue and Energy flavors are both banned because they contain caffeine or guarana-seed extract, according to the NCAA website. The other four beverages, B-relaxed, Vital-T, Balance and Power-C, include impermissible substances such as Taurine, L-theanine, green-tea extract and glucosamine. Other impermissible substances include various amino acids, protein powders and ginseng. An impermissible substance is not able to be provided by coaches or trainers to students, but players are able to purchase products with impermissible substances.
