    WALIKOTA CUP SURABAYA, April 25-28, 2007


    One of local tournament with a few foreign players were competed.
    The tournament is important to me for knowing who is the next badminton star in here.

    Women's Singles

    Maria Elfira take reveange beat Maria Febe, she lost to Febe in final Brazil Satellite last year.

    Men's Singles
    1. Nugroho Andi Saputro PB. DJARUM
    2. Fauzi Adnan PB. SURYANAGA GUDANG GARAM
    3. Wisnu Haryo Putro PB. DJARUM
    3. D. Hayom Rumbaka PB. DJARUM

    Good progress were showed by Djarum's boy's. Although still in junior age, they beat some the experiences. Wisnu beat Wimpie & Jeffer, Nugroho beat Fauzi Adnan.

    Women's Doubles

    I predicted Tee Jing Yi won after she beat Tike Arieda (seeded 1), maybe too much Djarum's player around her that given much pressure.

    It seems Trikus and Bambang were too old to move. Their foot work were so heavy eventhough the wrist action still in good shape. Ade Lukas is actually good enough to fight with former pelatnas player.

    I was there during final... :)

    In the Under-19 mixed doubles... Rizky-Dewi lost when Dewi had leg cramps. They could not continue playing.

    Rizky-Albert has won 2 tournaments in a row. They won the Sumatra Circuit for the Under-19 [Taruna] category in Bangka a few months ago.

    Rizky, by the way, is the guy in the recent Djarum Indonesian Super Series ad.

    Next Indonesian local tournament: West Java Circuit, followed by DKI Circuit. All in May.

    Djarum and Suryanaga GG totally dominated the finals.
    Where are the young players from Tangkas and Jaya Raya?

    As expected, Andi Nugroho is progressing quite well under Fang Kaixiang's tutelage. Hmm...what happens to Bellaetrix or Sylvinna?

    Don't forget also the annual JPGG (Jawa Post Gudang Garam) Challenger tournament. This is the next big event for the club players (both seniors and juniors) and the second-string Pelatnas players (like Bona/Ahsan, Bandar, Indra Bagus, Aprillia etc). This year, the WBF has selected Surabaya as the only host for the Challenger tournament in Indonesia.
