I guess u guys are right....maybe I am expecting too much for my players....we only rely on Taufik.....I hope he beat Chen Hong.....deep in my heart I really want Indonesian Badminton to go back to their glory days again........It hurts me looking at the badminton now cos we are going down in almost every department.........I do hope for the better....I mean as an Indonesian I am always proud...I will always be by the side of red n white....but we lost our dignity since Hendrawan retired.....I really hope Andre's win is not a fluke......I do hope he beat Chen Hong......but being Indo's 5th singles...beating Spitko, Smith and Jonassen is an achievement

According to the link..
..he has had a pretty good record up til last yr:
2002 Junior winner:
MS : Andre Kurniawan (Central Java) d Roy Purnomo (Central Java) 15-17, 15-10, 15-14
2003 Senior winner:
MS : Andre Kurniawan (Pelatnas) d Hariawan (Central Java) 15-9, 6-15, 15-12
2004 Junior winner:
MS : Andre Kurniawan (Central Java) d Fauzi Adnan (East Java) 15-4, 15-4
2005 Senior winner:
F : Andre Kurniawan (Pelatnas) d Alamsyah (Pelatnas) 15-9, 15-11
..notice he won both as Pelatnas(Senior) and non-Pelatnas(Junior) player all 4 yrs straight...Seems like he has the potential, but until we see the same results consistently and in international competitions, the question will always be....."Is he the next Indonesian star??"..

According to my PB. Djarum friends, Andre is Coach Fang's favorite... because his work ethic and willingness to improve is excellent... Coach Fang is strict and demanding towards Andre privately, but praises him publically many many times. After 6-8 months under his tutelage, some results have begun to show...
----------Now for Krisna's gossip column-----------
Mmmm, maybe Andre wants to show off in front of Maria Kristin... Everybody knows they were dating in the past ...Today the situation is not clear since they live apart [Maria is in Cipayung Pelatnas, Andre is in Kudus]...
Andre's roommate, Ari Yuli Wahyu, said that they are not dating. BUT when Andre comes to Jakarta, suddenly we see Maria in her sexiest outfit going around with Andre....
When Andre was going to overseas tournaments, Maria would go to the airport to say goodbye etc. Ok... we are not sure what's going on... I know it is none of our business, but hey, we're sometimes curious laahhh...
Maria and Andre grew up together in PB. Djarum's academy in Kudus. They were top Junior players around the same time and were recruited to Pelatnas around the same time. According to Pelatnas [the National Team] people..... after Andre and Maria started dating 2 years ago, their international tournament performances went downhill and crashed together... Both could not concentrate.....
Some said that Andre have never dated anyone before Maria. So being in a relationship for the first time was an overwhelming experience for him...
Now that they live apart... both their careers take off together...
But who knows what will happen in the future...

Well, I have seen them and heard their stories, but I can't claim I personally know them.

Sorry, kidosetiawan...
But I am sure if you just go to Istora and meet Simon and Andre, you can get them to sign your racket. Ooooh, I know! You can definitely see them again in the up and coming Djarum Superliga Bulutangkis. Coming up in June 22-July 1. They will have the preliminary league games in Kuningan and then the semifinals and finals at Kelapa Gading. You can surely meet them there...
Unless PB. Tangkas recruits some high-ranking MS from another country, then their #1 singles is Simon Santoso. Unless PB. Djarum recruits some high-ranking foreign MS, their #1 singles will be Andre.
So it is very possible that we see Simon vs. Andre in about 1.5 months.

Andre's recent accomplishments...
Tuesday: beat Roman Spitko, current world #60 21-11. 21-13 [29 min]
Wednesday: beat Andrew Smith, world #13 ...21-18, 21-18 [31 min]
Thursday: beat Kenneth Jonassen, world #10 ..23-25, 21-15, 21-15 [56 min]
Jumped up and down many times after this win over Kenneth... Screaming, "SAAAAHHH!", something like that... pumping his fist etc. Very expressive guy...
Friday: ...ok, could not beat Chen Hong, current world #4...
This last test is just way too tough. Ha ha ha...
Maybe next year, Andre...
