Dear all, This is Robert, a software developer and badminton fan in New Zealand. I have been playing badminton for many years. I plan to host a badminton game project, by hosting it I mean I will buy a domain name, build up a project site, just a place for communication between developers and suportors. So, I would like to know if you guys are interrested in a project likes this: Time length At least one year, as you know that developing video game is very hard and time consuming. It will also depend on how many developers we have. And, we all have our own works, so we are not able to code the game all the time. Number of developers Everyone is welcomed to join the team, programmers, graphic designers, badminton players, or just fans... Key roles: Project mangers (3) Graphic desginers (5) Core programmers (5) Testers (the more the better) The core developers are specialized in following fields: GUI Game programming A.I Control system ... What we need to do now? 1, Are you interrested in this project? 2, How much time (per week) you can work on this? 3, Which 3d engine we are going to use? 4, Which part you want too work on? (design, coding, testing,AI or...) 5, The name/domain name of the project? ... So, what do you think? please comment on this thread Thanks a lot, robert.q.s@gmail.com
I would be pleased to play the game. But the only help I could offer to you is, to test a beta version...
I wouldn't mind being a tester or a programmer. I think it would be good programming experience for myself since I don't really have a lot of experience. I've also just taken a game design and programming class too so I know a few things. 1, Are you interrested in this project? -definitely 2, How much time (per week) you can work on this? -My summer internship and summer class will determine the amount of time i have. And right now, I don't know about either. 3, Which 3d engine we are going to use? -Any 3d engine is alright I suppose. I think irrLicht seems to be good, but the documentation is somewhat lacking. Torque is an easy way to get started, but licensing fees. There is also Orge and Cube. 4, Which part you want too work on? (design, coding, testing,AI or...) -Maybe design, coding, or testing. I haven't done any AI yet, maybe next year. 5, The name/domain name of the project? -????
Thanks a lot for the replies! I forgot to say, the final product should be free and open source if we eventually get it done! Can anyone suggest a .org domain name? e.g BadmintonVideoGame.org ArtOfBadminton.org BadmintonGame.org ???
BadmintonGame.org sounds like a suitable name to me. I will setup a project manger, blog, and a guestbook. Don't know if BadmintonCentral can setup a subforum for this project? So, I can just link BadmintonGame.org/forum to it. Any suggests?
Great idea, I hope it gets enough interest! I don't think I can help in any big way, but I'd love to help with any 2D graphic design as I'm alright at that. I could also help with the website design if you'd like. Either way I really do hope this all goes well! I think expanding upon the kind of gameplay in the little cone flash game would work quite well as that is pretty fun and feels surprisingly like the real game.
Hi Guys, I have got BadmintonGame.org registered. Please email me if you want to join the team. Thanks a lot for the replies.
I'd love to have a go at creating a logo or something. Can I just ask if say I wanted to join the team as a graphic designer, what kind of things would I be asked to do (just so I know whether I'd be up to it)?
maybe i can help? i am game developer from Singapore. just graduated with diploma in game development. can design and develop. worked with OpenGL, DirectX 9, 3D Game Studio and 3DMax. can help out as i have like 3 months b4 enlisting into the army. need a project to keep me occupied and sane. actually i have taught about this idea b4. but, i find it kinda of difficult to do the modelling and movement of the players. plus, the game's control must be innovative(we need different keys for diff shots like drop, smash, net, drive). maybe, can look to the 3D Ping Pong game (can't remember the title) for inspiration and ideas.
I say keep it simple and fun. I don't think the models and animations should be too realistic. Keep the animations accurate to the real strokes etc. but simplified. I'm imagining a slightly cartoony stylised look to the game. I think that would work quite well for a simple game.
I've done 3d modelling and unwrapping for game mods before, but so far I've only been good at low polygon count models (crap my conservative styles ). Well, but thats about all I can do... can't animate, my skinning style is really too cartoonish to be serious...
low polygon models are good for games cos you have to think about rendering speed. anyway, my 3D modelling sucks cos i am from a programming background.
