Shuttler Sock Ai quits national team

PETALING JAYA: Women's doubles player Ooi Sock Ai, who was selected for the World Championships in August, has quit the national team.
Sock Ai, who has been battling a back injury since the start of the year, informed head coach Yap Kim Hock of her decision on Tuesday.
Sock Ai, who has been partnered with Fong Chew Yen since the end of last year, has been with the national women's team coached by Cheah Soon Kit since 2004.
She was also part of the gold medal winning mixed team in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and partnered Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari to reach the third round in the mixed doubles event in the World Championships in Madrid last year. The Sock Ai-Chew Yen partnership was given a wildcard to compete in the women's doubles event for the world meet, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 13-19.
National No 1 Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty and KLRC Berhad players Joanne Quay-Lim Pek Siah were the two automatic choices.
Kim Hock said they would try to get another national doubles player - Mooi Hing Yau -- to replace Sock Ai for the wild card entry.
