    We, the Bay Area Open badminton club, would like to invite you to participate in a new breed of a tournament.

    The Bay Area Open Summer 2007 is the first time we have 3 different events: Junior, Senior, Open A flight. It is a trial run to help promote badminton to juniors and seniors. Participant is limited to ensure tournament run smoothly.

    Juniors (BAJO):
    • Under 19 years old
    • Single Elimination with Consolation
      Main Matches played (3 x 21 points)
      Consolation Matches played (1 x 21 points)
    • 1 pc of Yonex AS-50 shuttlecock is provided for each match (Main and Consolation)
    • Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and Cons winners
    Seniors (BASO):
    • 35 and over (Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles events ONLY)
    • Single Elimination with Consolation
      Main Matches played (3 x 21 points)
      Consolation Matches played (1 x 21 points)
    • 4 pcs of Yonex AS-50 shuttlecocks are provided for each match in the Main Draw
    • 2 pcs of Yonex AS-50 shuttlecocks are provided for each match in the Consolation Draw
    • Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and Cons winners
    Open A Flight (BAOPEN):
    • OPEN to anybody who is interested to play in the A flight
    • Single Elimination (3 x 21 points) with NO Consolation
    • Yonex AS-50 shuttlecocks are provided for all matches
    • Total Prize Money of $2,250.
      Prize Money is alloted to Winners, Finalist, and Semi Finalists

    The tournament is targeted for the juniors to compete at their age level. For the seniors, it is fun tournament for competitive exercise. Lastly, for the Open A flight, it is for the excitement, experience, and the prize money of $2,250 (Total Purse).

    We have about 140 juniors playing in the upcoming Bay Area Summer Open 2007.

    i was there yesterday for around an hour or so.

    the older juniors i didn't see as i was there fairly early, but the younger ones are really impressive. a few very young ones, 8, 9 yrs old girls had really good technique and footwork, the only thing missing from them is that they are around 4 feet tall! otherwise they will give some really impressive showing.

    i notice a lot of them are from UBC. i think the future of USA badminton is very good indeed. i think a few more years these girls will be able to play very competitively.

    Men's single semifinal and final were all very good games.

    Kevin Zhang defeated Qin Zie Wei in 3 games and defeated Arnold Setiadi in 2 games.
