okay i dont know how to string a racket at all, never seen one being done, never touched a stringing machine. how would you recommend me to get into stringing? what should i do first? thanks.
Have a look at www.badmintonforum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11379 and trawl through the Stringing techniques forum.
1. Many string machine comes with user mannual, or even step by step tutorial package. 2. Visit a reputable stringer, and politely asking questions if he's not too busy. 3. Read the articles and watch the vid that Mr. Dink put on the site. 4. Start your own practice with a cheap racket and some junk strings with low tension (below 20lb). Have enough practice (say, 5-10 runs at least), before start the real work on your expensive rackets. 5. Be mentally prepared, as the beginning could be a long, boring, painful and costly expereince.
Ugh! Lazybuddy! I did a big NO NO and made my first attempt at stringing... now I am hooked. Last Saturday, I went over to PeteLSD's office and strung my racquet under his supervision. Unfortunately, because of a mistake, I had undone my efforts in the cross string sections. Pete offered to unstring the cross and redo them again. This is so sad... I almost strung my own racquet. Haven't check my racquet yet, but Pete said that the frame looks uneven. Probably due to improper setting of the frame before stringing. Nonetheless, now I am looking at getting the Pioneer DC Plus. Man, I think I will have to put down around CAN$1000 to get started! This addiction is getting stronger by the day!!!
I love gadgets and I love control. A stringing machine is a gadget that will give me control over how I modified my racquets... hopefully for the better. With time to spare, I could see myself saving money by stringing my own racquets. Apart from my main active racquets, I got 4 unstrung racquets (3 Cab22s, 1 Nanospeed9000) crying for my loving attention and with an average re-stringing of 3 weeks. The machine could pay for itself after 2~3 years down the road.
What can I say... PeteLSD's attention to details and commitment to excellence in his workmanship is infectious.
Wow... Does that mean, next time I come over, I have new toy to play with? Maybe after a long badminton session, I can string your rackets, while watching baddy DVDs in the living room?
lazybuddy, sounds like badmintonidis (addiction to badminton ahaha), play badminton, sleep badminton, watch badminton, eat badminton, do badminton
I can vouch for the attention to detail...after all i stayed awake after Pete finished stringing ONE racket. It's a pleasure to watch....once....haha. But i think i'll have to pay another visit to check out his new machineS when i'm back in Vancouver for the 1st week of August.
