Gail Emms, one of Britain's best Olympic medal hopes, has revealed she will end her competitive badminton career after the Beijing Games next year rather than carry on until London 2012. Emms, silver medallist with Nathan Robertson in the mixed doubles in Athens, believes she will be too old by 2012. She told the insidethegames newsletter: "There are some days when it is the best job in the world. "If I stayed on for London in 2012 I would be 35. It is a great deal to ask to carry on until then. We train two-times a day and it is lot for the body to go through until then. "It would be amazing to end that one step higher in Beijing. It will be my last championship and it is a great place to go out." Another talented female player will be missed.. ..hope Gail can stay healthy til next yr's Olympics(and accomplish her wish)..but she'll definitely be missed.. And yes, i'm piggybacking on Master NGP's sentiment as well.. *Btw, thank for sharing the news, cooler..
ah, it'll be sad to see her stop, one of the best european women in badminton, lovely touch at the net.
I'll miss watching her play a lot, I really hope that she gets that gold in Beijing. But good luck to her in whatever she goes on to do!!
one of the most cheerful player, alwz had her smile with her... hope she can get gold in Beijing too, somehow i feels tat their momentum is not as great as they use to be. need to put in some extra effort to catch up the game. sad that she will quit after Beijing game. she will alwz be missed, but not forgotten..
that's sad news indeed. but best of luck to her. she's my favorite player/character from the england squad.
Emms has been a perennial favourite with Gillian Clark On her best day, Emms is fearsome at the net. On other days, she is as error-prone as Saralee! Well, she will always cherish Athens 2004. Her cupboard has that Olympic silver to show
if she takes it easy the next few years, she can make it...but i'm happy she's making the decision to step down and allow some of the other english gals to take the next step and step up...but all the best to her! she's definately one of the best european doubles specialist! other than the fact that she's always so cheerful and humble! european gao ling for sure !
Tracey Hallam and Gail Emms, who had hinted before that they could be stopping their careers after the Olympics Games, are now considering playing at least one more year, confirms Badminton England. Good news for all their fans.
Really?? Is Tracy Hallam still playing? Haven't seen her play in ages. Good news indeed. Hope to see her play more often!
