Ok so that's your final word kwun? No avatars and no signatures? I'm just asking by the way don't get me wrong, I'm not all that worried either way . While I wouldn't mind avatars I can certainly live without them.

I know it looks like signatures are definitely out of the question. But avatars? Doesn't look good for them either but I'd like to hear the "no" that's all .

Avatars aren't that good either - takes focus away from the post count.

avatars already exist... click on the user's public profile!!!!!!
i personally think everything in the public profile is good enough.
we're all educated people, we can click around a bit and figure our way around... eventually...

going down a slippery slope....
after i have read and re-read the comments in this thread, i have narrowed down to two issues that we are looking at:
1) a way for member to identify whether a user's is trustworthy or not, or perhaps a better more generic description is their karma.
2) a way for member to express their identity.
for 1) i am going to experiment with a feature that will let a member rate other member's posts by giving out karma points. you can either give a positive or negative karma point to a member's post and their karma rating will be affected accordingly.
the number of karma points you can give depends on your own karma points, your post count and however long you have been in the forum. you only have a limited number of points so use it wisely.
as i said, this is an experiment, i want to know if such a system is feasible in a community the size of BC. if it works, great, if it fails for whatever reason, it will be turned off.
i really want to see genuine award of karma and i don't want this to turn the forum into a popularity contest.
so how does it work?
you will an icon like this: on each post. click on that and it will pop up a little window that allow you to award a +ve or -ve karma to a post. you can also add a comment if you like. the user will be able to see your comment, so make sure it is constructive.
and that's it.

Was about to suggest that but didn't know it was available on vBulletin.
Pros and cons of course.
Pros : Good compromise on the identity bit, taking away the emphasis from post count which is good. Feedback from members on other members would be a lot more objective, thus establishing trustworthiness to members who are really... trustworthy. I can see this feature being pretty important in the Marketplace, Buy & Sell where items are put on sale and traded.

Some sites give you a limit on how many + and - points you can distribute in a given period to try to limit misuse.

Just about the start a thread to ask what the new features are about until I read Kwun's post about the "karma" points! It was kind of funny when the green marker says "xxx is on a distinguished road!" LOL!
Has anyone become a distingusied gentleman or lady yet?
