I'm about to buy some feathers online, but I don't have a clue what the speed should be. I'm in Toronto by the way. Could you guys tell me the speed that I should get? I'll be ordering form mybadmintonstore.com , which feathers do you recommend?

What speed do you usually play?

    from shuttlecock.com:

    1 ------------- 48 ---- 75 - slow, for use in highland
    2 ------------- 49 ---- 76 - medium slow, for use in hotter area
    3 ------------- 50 ---- 77 - medium, most sea level area
    4 ------------- 51 ---- 78 - medium fast, cold area
    5 ------------- 52 ---- 79 - fast, cold area, below sea level

For me and my friends, we use HQ Blue 51, which is long lasting and the birds fly quite good.

And don't forget to steam the birds a bit if your area is very dry.

This is my first time buying feathers though, so I have no idea what speed to buy. People from Toronto, what speed are you using? For the HQ Blue, are you using the Duck or Goose one?

toronto is either 78 or 77. both is acceptable. 78 might be too fast in the summer. 77 maybe too slow when it's -25C outside.

The tube Hi Qua reds I bought was very good. As good as (or even better than) the RSL Tourney No. 1. The price was 5 HKD more than the RSL's.

The shuttle was not as round as the RSL's but it last longer IMO.

aeroplane black is one of the best (without going into Yonex ones)
around Toronto area and i've been using them in the past year
they have always show very consistant QC, personal favor i use aeroplane black @ 77 and RSL torny 1 @ 78
Only problem is aeroplane black supply is rather in consistant
RSL torny 1 become the alternative when those r not availabe

I agree with chessymonkey on the birds.. Just be sure that you get the Aeroplane blacks with the "pointed tips" and not the "rounded tips". It's hard to slow a bird down if the tips are rounded.
