Hi, i am not really familiar with this area. Carlsbad is a bit to the north, i think. the only place i have been to is Balboa Park near the city. check out this place for more information: http://www.sandiegobadminton.org/ click places to play and then open the pdf file. good luck in finding a place!
Don't know if they have a club or not, but there are courts at http://www.carlsbadca.gov/parks/stagpark.html Charge $3 for non resident, open Sunday 8am to noon. There are courts at Black Mountain gym and Twin Peaks high school gyms if that are close to where you are going.

stagepark is the place to go for badminton. the players there are very friendly whether you are a beginner or advanced player. the level of play there is intermediate and both Janet and I got some good games there. they have 3 courts and since it is sunday morning, it is not very crowded, the wait is less than a game's length, sometimes even just a few points.
here is a photo i took of the gym. wooden floor, 3 courts, not crowded. the ppl there are great. i met some BC readers there and had a good chat with a nice couple from Malaysia. (Hi Chris & Amy! )

Would like to learn and Play Hi Guys, I live in Carlsad and i would like to learn and play. I use to play a lot in Malaysia and New Zealand. Now i am completly out of touch since i came to San Diego 6 years back. Can i join any of you guys?
We moved to Carlsbad recently. Would like to join some group to play badminton. We discovered a brand new facility, Pine Ave community center, air conditioned. The facility would like to have more traffic to use the facility. Now they only open for badminton on Saturday afternoon. If we have enough people are interested in using the facility, they might add more time slot for badminton. We are thinking to suggest Wednesday and Friday evening. If anyone interested, please let me know so that I can send in request.
