Hi again Some of you may have seen and replied to some of my recent questions. I am newly back into the game. I think the rules have changed since I last played? I am mainly concerned with doubles: When I used to play- it was to 21… and you play for serve- whoever wins- they get 1 serve. Then once lost the other team gets a go at serving each (until they lose) and then it is handed back and the opponents get 2 and so on… You could only score on your own serve… How much of the above has changed!?
It does sound like you have been out of the game for too long! The official match system is now known as Rally-point system where point can be won whether you serve or not, and it is 21 points per game (maximum deuce point up to 30), and best of three games to win a match. For double, there will only be one serve per turn, instead of 2-services per turn in the old rules. I would strongly suggest you read the rules of the game from the BWF website to bring yourself up to speed: http://www.internationalbadminton.org/mensingles.asp
Oh, here is a link on members opinion on the new vs old scoring system, which will provide you some interesting reading: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39849
