    yes and no

    Anything that cheap usually has either steel or aluminium involved.
    They are heavier and harder to swing than an all-graphite racquet.

    You can play badminton with them, but you would almost certainly be better off with a graphite racquet

    ahhh ok! so graphite is the way to go... what sort of price will i be looking at for a basic graphite? what can you recommend?

    From that web site, MP23 is best for the price. AT150 is good also. AT250 is the best of those budget racquet and it will last you a good 3~4 years if you don't abuse it.

    I would probably buy the latter as you can adjust it's string's as you develop as a player. It is a little more money but I think in the longterm it's better value if you think you will persevere with Badminton.

    from that website, I would choose the wilson v14, i've used it and i actually preferred it to the more expensive wilsons and it's a bargain for £20

    how do you tighten the strings?
    do you need to buy some special equipment?

    Any of those racquets will get you started, that and a pair of court shoes and your away.

    Heavier rackets r good for practising though.It's good for a start.
