    Default Badminton Habits (In-Game)

Have you guys noticed some very strange habits when you're playing a game?

I'll list some of them here; feel free to add along. By the way this thread is just for entertainment purposes.

    1. "Punishing" yourself by whacking your calves.

    2. Repeating the same stroke after you've missed it.

Sorry, brain won't think properly tonight. Add more guys!

-before playing the first game, i approach the net and measure it
-on public courts, i usually wipe the shuttle's cork against my shirt or hand to remove any dirts

    (1) Stare at my racket face when I made a bad shot as if there is a hole there!
    (2) Smoothening the feathers on the shuttle just before I serve.
    (3) Making a big detour from the one side of the court to the other side, just to catch my breath!

    For me,

    1) Will say "sorry", "paiseh" ball too high or hit wrong side, "ah ya", "ah yo"...
    2) Sometime will laugh at oppoent when they do weird movement.
    3) Shout in when shuttle is in & do the same for the reverse.
    4) View my string n racket after the shuttle drop to the floor.
    5) Do stretching when some body parts a bit cramp or muscle-pull
    6) Chit chat when partner have something new or something interesting after the shuttle fall to the ground.
    7) Ask anyone who saw the shuttle falls in the court or out when the speed too fast.

    only think of this now....

i tried the detour around the court too. but my friends always ignore me and proceed with the serve anyway. they know it is just a tactic. but i must say, it is very ungentlemanly of them (though they are girls) to do that. the very least they could do was wait a bit. hehehehe. so now, i dont detour anymore.

Yep, this is one I do every time before I serve.

    In addition:

    1) If I make a really bad shot or miss: I sometimes flip my racket in the air, 360 to 720 degrees (1 or 2 full rotations). It looks pretty cool.

    2) If a friendly game, when the opponents miss the serve, I say very nicely, "Thank you."

    3) If the opponent makes a good shot, I always say "good shot" or "nice shot". This can be weird in tournaments.

    4) If I hit a good shot, and the opponents compliment me, I sometimes say "Lucky, lucky, lucky." Other times, "thanks."

    5) I always spin my racket in my hand 720 to 1080 degress (2-3 full rotations) before each point. This is to keep my hands loose and not grip the racket too tight.

    6) I always adjust my strings after each point to make sure they are straight.

    7) I always say to my partner, "Sorry" "Or my bad" if I'm at fault.

    8) When I break a string I always cut the string immediately after the point is over.

    9) Before I serve, I always look back at my partner and make eye contact and nod, kind of an assurance thing, we are ready.

    1. When the opponent lands in a good shot, I raise my racket and left hand above my head and clap the left hand against my racket to point out that the shot was well executed.

    2. Apologize by either showing the face of the racket or my palm at the opponent when I hit the net cord and the shuttle lands on the opponents side.

    3. Flip my racket in the air between the rallies.

I adjust my glasses between rallies. Even when I'm wearing contacts, I often find my hands searching for them on my face.

In singles, I always assume that my opponent has everything bit of basic footwork, stroke down to perfection, and I end up not knowing what to do until half-way or later in the match when I realize that my opponent usually have more weaknesses than I do.

In doubles, I do show an expression similar to "" or "" when my partner doesn't cover his position properly...eg. I smash from back-court then find out my partner is standing still somewhere else, wondering what's for dinner after badminton

Always screaming my lung out "GOOOOOOOO..." to let my double (or even mix) partner to run and cover me, while myself try to move as least as possible.

A bad partnership, but fits for my alias.
