Yes, SCCCA is officially open. It will be open tomorrow (Friday) at 7pm. There are 6 courts, the facility is nice and they are in the process of remodelling to make it even better.

The resident instructor is Coach Don Van who used to be the Head Coach of UCLA, UC Irvine, and Santa Ana College. Private one-on-one instruction is $45/hour. Coach Don can be reached at: badmintonconnection@gmail.com or 714-595-5666. Coach Don also sells badminton equipment at discounted prices.

Don is a first-rate coach and I can attest to this as I have learned more and improved more under Don's tutelage than any other coach I have trained with; and that's quite a few.

Indo: yes, there will be junior players and players of all ages and all levels. I will try to get over there too and support/help the Coach Don Van.

Is this an actual badminton facility (like SGVBC) or is it part of another gym?

SCCCA is a "center". It has lots many facilities for a variety of activities. The badminton facility is a converted basketball gym.

Here's a picture of the gym. There are six courts (you can't see the last court on bottom left).

The gym is part of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Association. Your registration fee can also be used to take other classes offered at SCCCA.

    best day to play

The best days depends on your skill level.
Thursdays seems to be the busiest with more intermediate/advanced players.
Fridays are not so busy. More beginner/intermediate players.
Saturdays are not too bad. More intermediate/advanced players.

If you're beginner to intermediate, try Fridays, otherwise I would go on Saturdays.

Court rules are: 1 game to 15 points, winner stays for second game. Player can play max of 2 consecutive games. Typical wait time when all courts are full is around 15-20 minutes.

    Good luck!
