Chun Seang pledges to buck up
KUALA LUMPUR: Top men’s singles back-up shuttler Tan Chun Seang is fired up to haul himself back on track after receiving a sealed envelope from chief coach Rashid Sidek.
“Coach (Rashid) gave us (all the back-up players) a letter (on Monday). It contained our results over the last one year. I looked at mine and was disappointed with myself,” said Chun Seang after a training session at Gymnasium Two in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
“There has not been any good results from me for a while. Our coach asked us to ponder on why we (my team-mates and I) are in his squad. I just do not want to continue achieveing such mediocre results,” said Chun Seang.
Chun Seang’s form has dipped since winning two satellite titles – the Vietnam International Challenge (May) and the Asian Satellite meet in (June).
With a renewed zeal now, Chun Seang aims to get back on the right track in his preparation for his first SEA Games in Korat in December.
Chun Seang and senior Yeoh Kay Bin will play in both the individual and team events. The other men’s singles shuttlers named for the team event are Kuan Beng Hong and Chan Kwong Beng.
“I will take part in two tournaments – the Vietnam Open and Malaysian satellite meet – next month. It will be a great boost for me if I can win one of them before the SEA Games. It will definitely boost my confidence.”
On his challenge in the SEA Games, Chun Seang said: “We will be banking on Kay Bin to win the gold medal. I will be satisfied if I can bag at least a bronze medal in my first Games.”
Chun Seang is setting a lower target because Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam are expected to send their top players for the biennial Games.
Indonesia will be relying on Taufik Hidayat, Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Simon Santoso while Thailand will be banking on Boonsak Ponsana. Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh, who has beaten some of the top players of late, will be the darkhorse of the tournament.

I think there is too many juniors players in the MAS team, they need to produce results.. We don't wanna to have more KBH/YKB/Yogendran stay in the squad for so many years but yet to produce any significant results...
On the other way, BAM should consider rope in the wonder kids CLARENCE
in the Juniors team lol...

TCS and others received 'wake up calls' recently via letters from the coach re their performances. In those letters, I am sure it spelled out their lack of performances and consequences (directly or indirectly).
For a person who is young like TCS, it may just get him to realise that his career could be over before it even starts and that is a hell of a lot to chew on. My thought on this is TCS will be spurred into more zealous training which will enable him to step up as he did in the Vietnam Open.
As the saying goes "No pain no gain" : many of these youngsters would need to know pain before they can hope for any gain. I am hopeful TCS will overcome. He needs to be more aggresive if he wants to compete at LCW's level.

R u Sure?
From what I read from both the malay and english press, it's those from the senior/elit squad who will be dropped at the end of the year. The press identified Kuan Beng Hong as in danger zone for MS and Gan/Lin for MD. Yap Kim Hock said there won't be any additions to senior squad till after Beijing Olympics.
TCS is a back up player, under Rashid Sidek, so it's a different team. Hmmmm maybe Rashid Sidek will drop some players from Pro 2010-2012, if yes, then both junior and senior squad will drop players.
BUT they sure will keep TCS, he's about the best MS player in Rashid's squad.

honestly TCS must reach Chen Jin standard by now...
we are still very much lacking...
we must start promoting them to higher level
of competition... some places like HH, YKB must be
made available for MJ exposure....

Interesting. Tan Chun Seang and Chong Wei Feng will now be coaching as well? How are they gonna juggle their priorities?

...Hmm, i think BAM will keep TCS around..Him and Arif are, arguably, 2 of the young talents which BAM can't afford to lose..
