I encounter one of my Micropower string slightly burst after the stringer removed the cable tie from the new string. It was due to the cable tie which squeezing too tight around the string.

Now whenever I purchase a new Ashaway string, I cut the cable tie first before hand it to the stringer.

Cautious when cutting a cable tie, use a sharp reasonable size cutter and carefully just cut the outer part(outer part only) of the square thread lock(square head) of the cable tie. Dont cut the cable around the string as it will be more risky to accidently cut the string.

Other brand than Ashaway also use cable tie like Gamma.Don’t know why they prefered using cable tie instead of just a paper tape or insulated flexible wire.

Such cable ties are industry standard. You should blame your stringer who obviously doesn't know how to cut a cable tie cleanly, and as a result damaged the string.

    Exactly.

Try this, when you cut the cable/zip tie, cut the actual tie (the square piece that locks the cable). You don't need to cut it all the way, just cut half way and it will come off easily. Experiment and you will see.

Unreel the string, and once there's enough space between the tie and string, use a sharp nail cutter to do the job. Easy and safe.;)

    Don't even tell me:

    1) you unrolled the string out of the cable tie

    2) you "made" a bunch of cable ties to prove a point

Either way, you are mad! :p:D

What would be crazier, unrolling the string or unlocking the cable tie?
