Does any of you guys wear compression clothings during badminton? I had a couple of 'skins' and i did not find any improvements during playing. But one thing for sure, you will not see yourself soak in sweat after the session. They just wick your sweat away like magic. Which makes you feel fresh and feels like keep playing.
What do you mean by "improvements"? The material on these shirts HAVE done their job by wicking away sweat from your body. Not sure what else you were expecting out of them.
Compression stuff is first and foremost to minimize/prevent injury not to wick away moisture. It isn't until recently the manufacturers started to market compression stuff as a supposedly superior moisture removal material; why IMHO, is any better than the standard dry fit clothing. I wear compression shorts. Before I did that, I would sometimes pull a thigh, groin, glute or lower back muscle. But since wearing compression shorts, I've not been injured at all. Also, for guys, it keeps your "asset" in place, minimizing movement. Actually, in all seriousness, it's most beneficial. I would never play badminton without my compression shorts. You feel so much more secure, figuratively and literally. Recently it's been very hot and humid in SoCal and my compression shorts have been drenched. But one thing great about dry fit type material, one quick trip to the bathroom with a microfiber towel wipe down and 70%-80% of the moisture is transferred to the towel. This is the same reason why I only need to bring 1 extra dry fit type shirt instead of 10 cotton shirts (like I used to do). When the dry fit shirt gets wet, I just use a microfiber towel to wipe off the sweat. This method works so well. So now, I bring 1 extra shirt and 3-4 microfiber towels. Heck, except once, I haven't even used the extra shirt.
That sounds interesting, I wear dry fit shirts too but I've never tried that. Do you wipe the outside of the shirt, the inside or both?
Most of the time I wipe the outside as that's where the moisture goes. However, some instance when the shirt is drenched, I'll wipe both. The key is to make sure your microfiber towels are dry when wiping. Once the towels are wet, use a dry towel.
Thanks for the tip! I'll try that next time. Then I may not have to bring as many clothes to tournaments anymore.
Well, I used to bring 8 shirts normally, 12 if I played for a full day. Now I only bring the dry fit (usually tank top by Under Armor) and 1 spare in my racket bag. Except for once, I've yet to change. Just make sure to use microfiber towels and bring 3-5. Cotton towels do not work that well.
hi everybody, i am interested in getting compression shorts as well purely to help minimize injury. i am hoping somebody can clarify something. do u wear underwear under the compression shorts or is it commando ? if the compression shorts is tight then ...err wouldn't it be too tight ? thanks
There are few brands that you can use. But i do strongly recomend "SKINS" www.skins.net from Australia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_SKSeyKKns&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv9Y1tb-vEQ&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wck39E5f8ng&feature=related and Canterbury IONX www.canterburynz.com from NewZealand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6W9D_T9MzY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbZHygL-mO8&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMYftmYuk14&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cUjDL00sgg&feature=related As for the Canterbury IONX, i suggest the COMPRESSION wear. Don't get the Baselayer. However these products are not cheap. But its value for money. I've tried other compression wears like Nike,UnderArmour etc.. but believe me nothing perform better than SKINS and IONX both off and on court. There are few Malaysian players who is using SKINS during their matches and for recovery after match. I'm going to introduce to them IONX Compression wear. Personally i've tried it and i find it good. It reduces the aches and pains that i get after matches. I even wore them when i sleep for recovery. Sometimes my parents asking me weather i'm going diving or not. haha.. Don't worry weather it will be too tight for you when you wear. They have sizes. Well of course when you wear these stuffs.. it doesn't make you a winner. But it definately helped you play better and the important thing is the decrease the chances of injury and increases the time of recovery. The best to find out is to try it yourself.
Nothing under the compression shorts. The compression shorts act as underwear and are way superior for saving your assets.
I interchange. Skins for game and Ionx to sleep and vice versa. Skins is more comfortable, Ionx is slightly heavy. I really don't have a preference since i love em both.
OK, Skins it is for me, thanks! I'm going to order this: http://www.skins.net/us/en/Products/BioAcceleration_Technology/travel_and_recovery And a few of these: http://www.skins.net/us/en/Products/BioAcceleration_Technology/sport/half_tights
not only does it save your assets, it prevents rashes!! man i remember the days wen i went for a 4 hour session with cotton boxers....aahhh painful. now i have several compression shorts, i found some cheap nike kind, made with spandex and polyester (dri-fit) very comfortable and functional. recommend anyone to wear them, now i wear them all the time for any sport i do now.
was at the canterbury store in melbourne central. bought myself a pair of base layer compression shorts as recommended, but i think i bought the wrong size according to the chart i should have bought a medium instead of small..... ohhh welll...already taken the tags off...
