Yes, heard the news.. ..however, like silentheart mentioned, the epicenter was very2 deep; so, there were no major casualties & damages..Also as a note, the buildings in Jakarta & Indonesia are mostly (if not all of them) constructed/built with concretes, bricks, stones & plasters unlike those in the U.S.(esp. California with mostly woods, gyp boards)..So, imagine, if the epicenter were higher, there could have been some major damages..
Here in Singapore around 7.30pm, I was still working in the office on the 25th floor and suddenly felt dizzy. Thought I was having a heart attack. Only realised later that it was a earthquake tremor and the building had swayed. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/299419/1/.html
It's in Indonesia.. ..but this time, not in Jakarta..and surprisingly the # of casualties is very2 low-still feel sad abt all the victims though..should be interesting to hear the update in the coming days & weeks, once all the rubbles have been cleared..
JAKARTA, Nov. 17 (AP) - (Kyodo)—A strong earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.5 hit Minahasa in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, early Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, while the Indonesian weather authorities temporarily issued a tsunami warning after the quake hit at 1:02 a.m. local time. The U.S. Geological Survey, which monitors global seismic activity, reported that the quake hit some 135 kilometers northwest of Gorontalo on Sulawesi Island with the focus at a depth of 26.1 km. An apparent aftershock with an estimated magnitude of 5.6 rattled the northern part of the island at 1:34 p.m., with the focus about 10 km under the seabed. Indonesia, with more than 17,000 islands, is prone to earthquakes.
