    These are photos of my trio of fast prime lenses, can someone tell me what's so special about them?

    All three are very fast prime lenses with large front elements, ideal for available light photography. The Nikon lenses are for full frame film/sensor? I think the Sigma (C for compact) one is for a smaller sensor, APS-C?
    They are also expensive except for the Sigma. Watch out for fungus growth on Sigma lenses which probably use coatings that attract fungus.

    that's right, DC is for cropped sensors.

    the 50/1.4D is actually cheaper than the Sigma.

    they also use a coating on the body that comes off really easily. take a close look at the photo.

    but that's not the answer i was looking for.

    I don't see anything special from the photos except that the Sigma does not provide you with manual aperture setting of the Nikkors and that it focuses beyond infinity (or misalignment).

    Is it possible that the fast speed of the 3 lenses will have more bokeh than slower lenses? More bokeh from fast lenses at open aperture, the longer the focal length the greater the bokeh effect, yes, but how about the quality of the bokeh? The best bokeh comes from sonnar-type lens design and an aperture that is round.

    All three are adequate for light gathering ability when taking badminton photos. However, the AF system in these lenses are not fast enough to keep up with quick movements, especially with the limited indoor lighting conditions. Therefore, for shots of badminton, the 'keeper' rate can be quite low. The three are up for sale and Kwun is going to buy a Canon Mark III with USM lenses.:D

    I see someone's reflection off the golden stripe in the third photo. I guess that's not it too. There is also a big paint chip.

    The thread is titled "my Nikon lenses"
    so is the Sigma really a Nikon, or has Nikkor glass in it ?
    :confused::confused:

    edit:
    or are they all internal focusing ?

    I got it! These are the Nikon mount lenses that Kwun owns. The key statement is "my trio of...lenses". That implies no other Nikon mount lenses in his collection:)

    No, not really. But the practice is wide spread. As a matter of fact I think Nikon has given up on making their own wide angle lenses and have asked Zeiss to make special Zeiss wide angle lenses (Zeiss FZX or something like that) for them. The Japanese are still far behind the two German giants, Zeiss and Leitz, in wide angle lenses.
    But Kwun alludes to something "special". That to me means something positive and good, and not something that will be sold to make way for better lenses.

    Your question doesn't sound like you are asking about the lenses but the photos. These are the first 3 photos you took with your brand new Canon Mark III? or you took them with your new Nikon 100/1.4D lense.
