Server may need to be tweaked soon with new members comming. I noticed sometimes posting, it doesn't show and then I have to re-enter the thread to see that the post is there. Maybe a performance issue is gradually developing.
Badminton Central ought to be CONGRATULATED !!! Yes, as at today, Saturday 11-Aug-2007, we only need 20 new members to reach our 25,000 mark. But membership is not everything. It is how Badminton Central has promoted our beloved Badminton that counts. Badminton Central ought to be CONGRATULATED !!!
If you count the people who have been banned, we will have over 25000 members. But a lot of these accounts are inactive, so we have less members. However, regardless of the amount of members we have, BC is still a great community.
Well then, what's the significance of 'breaking the 25,000' barrier? Sounds suspiciously close to the 'post count' thing, if I might say so.
Well, some do for convenience and more access to the forum. Otherwise how do you explain that number?
When lurkers register, they become members. As for the convenience bit, that I'll give to you. As for the numbers, here's a few theories: 1. Members who came to ask specific question on badminton, then off they went and never to come back. 2. Formerly regular members whom had a change in life and found something else to occupy their time. 3. Formerly regular members whom are either dissatisfied with how the place had developed, left or just lurked. 4. Registered to test the water, didn't like the place after a while and left/lurked. 5. Registered as a member to express admiration to a certain player. Player is no longer popular/great. Interest dwindled. 6. Banned accounts for various offences - a certain 'HH' comes to mind. 7. Duplicate accounts, normally used by those who wanted to put in contentious posts but are afraid to reveal their real persona. What are the percentage breakdown of the above, that I cannot say but I believe (2), (3), (4) and (5) make up a bulk of the number. Without access to query the database I can't comment further.
The percentage breakdown of your statement accuracys should be in question. Your realism is a bit foggy
1. Members who came to ask specific question on badminton, then off they went and never to come back. yes but after certain inactive period, their username will be deleted after periodic system checks What's the official word on this? 2. Formerly regular members whom had a change in life and found something else to occupy their time. see answer #1 Logging in will reset the counter. 3. Formerly regular members whom are either dissatisfied with how the place had developed, left or just lurked. if they lurk, they are reading bf. Being a member don't required to make posts. Indeed. Which... doesn't really disprove my theory, does it? Logging in will reset the counter. 4. Registered to test the water, didn't like the place after a while and left/lurked. see answer #1 and #3 Which... doesn't really disprove my theory, does it? Logging in will reset the counter. 5. Registered as a member to express admiration to a certain player. Player is no longer popular/great. Interest dwindled. see answer #1 Which... doesn't really disprove my theory, does it? Logging in will reset the counter. 6. Banned accounts for various offences - a certain 'HH' comes to mind. banned accounts are not in the memberlist. Go try to find cooldoo6 if u can. Does the member count include all members in the list or just active accounts? I think a query on the DB vs software count would probably yield a more accurate picture. 7. Duplicate accounts, normally used by those who wanted to put in contentious posts but are afraid to reveal their real persona. alias accounts usually get caught and dealt with. If not, they would be eventually inactive. See answer #1 I'll give you this, but you're just speculating just as I am. I'm sure our mods do this regularly, seeing that they're on here 24/7. The percentage breakdown of your statement accuracys should be in question. Your realism is a bit foggy I did no percentage breakdowns, kimosabe, hence I pretend no accuracy.
Why of course, but cappy was asking me to account for the 25,000++ member number, not whether they are active or not.
Then again, some could be members of other playing groups like chris@CCC. They probably joined up just to subscribe to their playing group's threads. I see this number as a good thing, a manageable one too given the consistency and quality work of our mods. No kidding Kwun! We should all pray for Wilfred's happiness cuz ya know... misery can be contagious. Where's HH when we need her??!!!
