hello .. im 16 years old kinda skinny..want more strenght and stamina and to be fit.. should i start weight training?? heavy weight or light weight( with alot of reps).. anyone that knows can you please post.. thanks
Don't do heavy weights, you're still growing and going with heavy weights may stunt growth. Best to go with light weights and more reps. Once you stop growing, say 21-22, then go ahead, knock yourself out with the heavy weights. Caveat: if you lift, you need to stretch more (if you don't already). Lifting makes you stiff and tight; and that's, of course, not good for badminton.
I being doing weights for years now and i for a starter, only start off with 5-10kg. Doing small amounts of weights but many times will give you strength. Doing 50kg+ will only increase your muscle size but not much strength.
Don't be scared off from the weight room by some of these people. You don't see tons of short former highschool football players do you? Plyometric exercises like top end sprinting are much tougher on your bones and joints. No one says kids/teens shouldn't sprint... What's important is that you use a variety of exercises, and by that I actually mean exercises other than bench press, curls, and leg press. Stay away from machines as much as possible - learn to move weight by yourself using your own lifting skills. Also, make sure to keep track of your progress. At your age, it is possible to gain a lot of strength very quickly, but if you don't know exactly how much you did last time, you won't know to increase the weight.
