    Kemelut di BWF
    Ancaman Bagi Bulutangkis

Nama Punch merebak kurang sedap selama kejuaraan dunia.

(dede)

    Crisis in BWF
    The threat of Badminton

When the world badminton championship final took place (Sunday 19 / 8), stand up in the Putra Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur terpampang banner labeled "Punch Should Quit" that brought spectators. Anyone who read any posts acknowledge that banner is intended to Datuk Punch Gunalan, prominent Malaysian badminton deputy who is also the Executive President of BWF (Badminton World Federation).

Name Punch merebak dreadful during the world championship. This is because many cases involving himself, either in or on the body BWF BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia). Start from pemecatannya action against Ganga Rao, Director of Operations BWF on June 4 as opposed to the Ganga took Punch in managing BWF, to move the case BWF headquarters from Cheltenham, England, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, allegedly laden game.

Case Punch Ganga Rao versus running in the middle of Malaysia. Moreover, in disputes that have alleged piercing files private property Ganga. However, the transfer of cases to KL office BWF continue scrolling. Until-up, young and Sukan Minister Datuk Azalina Othman Said took lodge connection.

Results are due to move the office BWF KL laden with promises Punch, which mengatasnamakan BAM, the BWF is not fulfilled. When KL nomination so BWF headquarters in 2004, Punch promised that the government will provide assistance Malaysia 500 thousand Ringgit (about Rp 1.25 billion) each year for four years to the BWF.

Punch also promised to get sponsor 100 thousand U.S. dollars from Petronas, Malaysia's ticket Airlines 150 thousand U.S. dollars each year for four years for the operational activities of staff and employees BWF, accommodation, office, vehicle, duty-free from the government, work permit, and build BWF badminton training center in KL.

    Conflict

However, the promises were not met after three years operating in BWF KL. In fact, Malaysia is now the government bear the shame because it allegedly violates the promise. "We have called for Punch, and he reasoned that the turnover of state leaders in Malaysia and in the companies mentioned is a failure because promises. However, he still must mempertanggungjawabkannya, "said Azalina.

Although in a press conference at the Putra Stadium Bukit Jalil, Friday (17 / 8) President of BWF, Kang Young Joong, does not refer to the name of Punch, he explained that the power of some influential people in the executive council to make BWF now full of conflict.

"Even they have a hidden agenda and made my position is seremonial only. Since I do not believe the motion at the executive council meeting in Glasgow last year, I know that the BWF has played a few people, "he said.

Punch your own position at the latest, with some leaders in the BWF, such as Robin Bryant and VK Verma (two BWF Deputy President) and Roger Johansson and Anne Smille (two board members), said that there is no coup d'etat in the body BWF. "All council members made a decision that amounted to 24 people. Including attitude motion does not believe it. Not that I control this organization, "he said.

That create a crisis in BWF organization that highlighted the IOC (International Olympic Committee). If this is not completed soon, the fate badminton London Olympics in 2012 and thereafter will be threatened. (dede)

Yes, the facts of the case leading to the resignation of Punch have been discussed at great length sometime ago and nothing is new.

I think the BWF is more stable now, but how much the government is to honour what Punch has promised for the move of the world badminton headquarters from England to KL is not very clear yet.

I should think badminton should not have any problem making its appearance at the London Olympics 2012. No way would Badminton England allow it to be dropped. But whether the question of a new HQ will surface, that is left to be seen.

    It's called strategy.
When CHN is not in a position to win as many tournaments as they used to,it makes sense to consolidate and concentrate on key titles. Nothing wrong with that and why do CHN even need to come up with any excuse? Only problem is fans who are not BCF members start to wonder and ask'Why is CHN not in MO09? Missed one SS, ok.But KO09? That's 2 SS! How can? What's wrong with CHN?
Remember the fan in the street(who has no access to BCF intelligence) have such a strong perception of CHN's dominance, they expect CHN to take part in every high level tournament like SS.Not the whole contingent but at least some representation. That's the trouble when such an aura has been created and CHN suddenly's nowhere in the first 2 SS of 2009.Guess CHN will be in the last 10 SS...
In the meantime,non-CHN players are having tremendous runs to gain confidence and develop self belief which will see them playing to their truer potential unlike before.CHN wouldn't want to give non-CHN such opportunities but it really has no choice. In focusing to maximise OG golds, something has to be sacrificed:the next team development. The next team will be solid but they haven't got the experience and there is no short cut to experience,it still takes time.Sure, the next team can win titles like WYH and WL but they can also go out in early rounds with certainty. That is the difference in lack of experience.Lack of consistency. It's gonna be very hard for CHN to use their unique strategy like before because non-CHN are now owning most of the top rankings...
As CHN continue in their absence, instead of the former perception that 'CHN is great',the fan in the street now wonders in dismay,'What's wrong with CHN?'
But really, right now CHN has no choice.CHN always require comprehensive preparations to win.Without that,CHN players will lose like CJ in DO08 and FO08.CHN made the right decision not to be in MO09 and KO09.

Haven't things calmed down? But why did Dato Asbullah bring up and old article. Does it have relevance to the last few tournaments.

I really do not see the problem of China not sending players to tournaments. Many other countries do not send their players to certain tournaments.

It's an old news..The power struggle between Dr. Kang, Ganga & co. vs. Punch & co.

..and it was already brought up a while back in some other threads (i'll try to search for them and for any English articles).

Basically it happened during the 2007 WC in KL, when all the rumors and news surrounding Punch against the supposed "renegade" group comprising of Ganga Rao, Dr. Kang Young Joong & others trying to overthrow Punch were flying around.
