Behind this rather drab facade lies one of the major Badminton centres in London and the South East of England - Wimbledon Fitness and Rackets Club. It has seven very good courts, several squash courts, gym, sauna, bar and even a snooker table. Run as a private sports club, it has over 600 members playing Badminton, from beginners to county level and beyond, and the club maintains an outstanding commitment to junior Badminton. Club nights are graded sessions, so (in theory) everyone should get well matched games. But it's pricey - if you want to join it will cost £360 pa + £60 joining fee + session court fees @ £6.50 per session (discounts available if you book in advance). There are also numerous internal tournaments you can enter (at a fee), social events. quiz nights etc, and some Elite circuit tournaments are hosted there.

The 7 courts are:
4 in the "old hall" - built many years ago with a curved roof. My understanding is that this is no longer acceptable for International matches (roof too low), although the club website states that it has 7 courts of international standard. These 4 courts in the "old hall" have recently had their floor re-laid - the playing surface on these courts is now excellent.
3 courts in the "new hall" - more recently built and to full international specification. This hall can be cold in the winter (although there are heaters) and condensation on the ceiling can drip down onto the court surface occasionally - a hazard to watch out for.
On the club website there is a video which clearly shows the two groups of courts:

Just a word of caution - the weekday graded club sessions can be very busy with long waits between games (up to 30' is not unusual), and it has been said that this club can be rather "clique-ey". Bur if you don't mind either of these then you'll certainly have a good experience with every chance of improving your Badminton and making new friends.
