wel last night after having a great first time wif my new yonex shb-90's i managed to have an accident right at the last game, i'm nt too sure what actually happened but i think i landed in a way that sent a whole lot of impact straight to my toe joint, waking up today and getting out of bed i noticed that the top of my foot was hurting quite badly( bearable, but worse than last night), i think its more of a bruise than anything else( unless somebody with the same experience could tell me otherwise)

So bak to the question wel when you use muscle and pain ointments the idea is that they increase bloodflow to help recovery right? so shouldn't i be keeping the area warm, to increase bloodflow instead of using ice which decreases the rate of flow of blood? or is ice only for ankle injuries?

    Keyword is swelling...

    Hi enk39,

When you are feeling acute pain which is usually within 48 to 72 hours of the injury, you should use ice. That will keep the swelling down. Do not use heat during this time, because it will increase the pain you experience and possibly slow your healing time.

After 72 hrs, you can alternate between heat/warmth and ice accordingly. If you still have some swelling, then use ice.. Heat is for any stiffness and to relax your muscles.

And also, most importantly as some would say around here. Consult a professional/medical doctor. It seems to me that you should follow that advice.

i'm not the doctor, but what i've learnt is icing first to prevent swelling (because swells usually NEVER fully recover, and you don't want a distorted foot do you?)

After that a heat pad should do the job
