Hi, i need help chosing which string to play with... I am chosing between: - BG-80 - BG-85 - Ashaway PowerGut 0,66mm (PG-66) I've recenly had tennis-elbow, and therefore I want to try a string, which is less vibrating. I want to know which string causes the least vibration / has the most soft feel... By the way, i string my rackets at 22/23 lb (10-11kg), so i guess the tension ain't the problem... Thanks!
I don't think there's a major difference "vibration"-wise between different models of strings..I would suggest the following (in prioritized order) : 1) Try to treat rehab the "real" rpoblem, ie the elbow and or technique. 2) fFnd a racket with good vibration dampening. 3) Don't string to tight.. lesser tension = easier on the elbow.. /Twobeer
i have treated the main problem, but to make sure it doesn't come back, i wanted to minimize the riscs... At the moment i play with NS9000S 2UG3, and i do not find any problems in the racket itself... I read in DinkAlots string review that the PG-66 has a soft feel at impact, but how is this feel compared to the other strings...?
Just my opinion. 1) i will suggest you to try out BG85 and PG-66 because they are thinner and softer at your current tension. However, both are not too durable if you are a smasher. 2) May I ask, do you use over grip? If so, what kind? The reason is depend on how you wrap your over grip, it will have shock obsorbing effect without giveing up any feeling. 3) I will suggest you go with 20lb main X 22 lb cross and see if you like that tension. Usually have 3 beers (not twobeer) after your game will take a way the wrist pain because you will have a hang over and forgot your wrist problem. Just a bad joke on twobeer.
You're looking for the softest string. That would be Ashaway PG65 Neon. Not BG80 or 85. Some other things to look out for: 1) lower your string tension 2) have a pro check your form 3) possibly go with a more flexible racket
At the moment i use towel grip with enforced buttcap (made of old overgrip) underneath the towel grip... sometimes i use wilson pro overgrip (just like yonex supergrap)... I will try both BG85 and PG66, and try lower my tension a bit... but a you probably know that is quite difficult once you have got used to a nice tight stringbed... thx for the advice!
PG65 is not avaliable at my stringer. By the way, what is the difference between PG-66neon and PG-66power I am a badminton coach myself and have taken several coaching lessons on technique... so i dont think my technique is i major problem--- NOT saying it is perfect either
String tension is the major point next to grip size. Couple mishits on a backhand with too small a grip and too tight of strings and that elbow will be screaming at you.
How do you suggest i wrap the over grip so it will be more shock absorbent?? is there any special grip you would suggest? - currently i use towel grip, and i know it's not the best for people with TE, but it just gives you a great feeling...
Also, get enough rest in between sessions or even games. Get enough warm up before intensive training or playing.
A few players I know wear shock absorbers designed specially to assist tennis elbow. I solved my tennis elbow by lowering the tension of my string. But my friend claimed it worked for him.
Sorry for the last posting. Some people will wrap the overgrip up to the shaft. This will produce a damping effect. Here it is.
