Well the title says it all, two rackets, an airblade carbon tt and a powerblad carbon tt, both broke within the first 2 sessions, is this always the case with carlton ? seems like you buy a carlton thinking its 60 quid, and then its always gonna need restringing, so it actually costs u 75 quid, I am totally miffed...

also, anyone know of a "while you wait" restringing place in yorkshire ?

    many thanks

yeah, that's a bit frustrating, but not completely abnormal.
though if it's dan talking, that's prolly an economical week.

i've snapped 4 strings in a single 4 hour session before, so i feel your pain mate.

presumably he had to excuse himself from the court, change racquets and about 10 minutes later, sat down and woefully took out his scissors and cut his strings to avoid the frame being damaged.

    :p:D

But stock strings? I believe they are almost impossible to break them as they are thick and soft.

yeh I was a bit gutted about it, and the stock strings are fairly thin, and tbh, fairly tight, I just need to find somewhere that will restring the rackets now :(

I didn't have any scissors with me, how long can the racket go without the remaining strings being removed before the racket frame is damaged?

The strings have snapped at same place both times, its the middle two strings, and from memory it was from playing a clearance from low at the back of the court, it could well be the way I hit it, but I have been playing with a mp88 with Bg-80 (I think) strings doing the same thing for nearly a year now and they are fine...... ( touches wood frantically )

thats not too bad.... the racquets isn't good news, but strings should be relatively normal, depending on how much you play...

in the last week (within 4 days), me and my girlfriend has broken six sets of strings between the two of us.
five sets of ashaway micropowers (four at 25 or 26lbs, one at 23lbs), and one set of bg66/85's (24lbs).
they're all in the same place too. four or five strings to the side and top of center. :(

I have had some bad experince with many Carlton rackets quality wise (usally handles, cones, shaft etc. that has been the problem (poor QC ?)..

But the factory stringing is poor on pretty much all brands of rackets.. The one I've found using best strings and tensions on the factory stringing is Forza!! Superor in this regard to Yonex etc.. But even so.. most players like to use their preferred strings and tensions anyway.. So I really think the Asian market where rackets are mostly sold unstringed is a much better way! But because labour cost is so expensive and many casual-players really are ignorant about the stringing anyway, all rackets here are sold pre-strung. Expect to cut the strings immideately and restring it...

yeah, it's a completely different market here in europe.
it costs something like 10-15 pounds to restring a racquet here, so most club players want it pre-strung so they don't have to incur the extra costs after buying a racquet.
    a shame really.
there are some sites/shops though where you can specify your preferred string and tension, so it's not the case that it's completely unavailable, you just have to know where to go.

think its all a bit unfair tho, you buy a "racket" which consists of many things including the strings, you dont buy frame and grip.... I can see that you mite need to buy strings almost straight away, but why do carlton even bother putting these strings on the racket? Atleast you can get a couple of months plays using Yonex factory strings. I dunno, I just feel a bit cheated, its a false economy, you buy a racket thinking its a set price, and now it seems you always need to factor in an aditional cost of putting proper strings in it....

    hmpf :(

haha, look at it this way mate. it's like buying a computer, you don't expect to buy a dell desktop, say, and not have to buy more software or hardware in the future. carlton's pre-strung it to cater for most club players, just like dell's included some software and hardware to cater for most users, but you'll always get people customising their computers, as you do with racquets.

well if you use that comparison, I look at it like selling a computer and the harddrive failing within 2 days, them saying well its only because you downloaded too much.... fact is, if it comes with a hard drive, you expect it to work. I totally see what your saying, but I just dont agree, its not as if the hard drive isn't a good one, and for top end users you would require a higher storage or quicker cache, its a hard drive that simply doesn't work, and thier excuse is, "yeh well once you've bought it you'll need to buy a proper hard drive".

plus, if the strings only cater for a general club player, that would fairly accurately describe me, I wouldn't rate myself very highly, I am a fairly average club player, I have only ever come close to playing regular county or club badminton, so I dont see why they should break within the first 3 games each time for me....
