The Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) has a new home next year.

From January, it will relocate its operations from Guillemard Road to the Singapore Sports School.

This was announced by the Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan on Tuesday evening.

He said this will enhance the synergy between the Sports School and SBA, and in turn elevate the standard of badminton in Singapore.

The SBA will be based at the school until 2011 before moving to the Sports Hub.

For the next few years, SBA's national athletes will be able to tap on the Sports School's facilities.

SBA will also be taking greater ownership of the Sports School's Badminton Academy.

The Academy ensures a higher level of coaching and development, and offers the best shuttlers a smooth transition into the national youth and senior squads. Sports School students will also benefit by training with the national players.

Dr Balakrishnan added the SBA is developing plans to place more emphasis on youth development by training a select team to prepare for the inaugural Youth Olympics Games in 2010.

He said that Singapore's bid to host the Youth Olympics is well supported and preparations to submit the bid are underway.

According to the minister, many Singaporeans here and overseas have expressed their support for Singapore's bid.

This is very encouraging as one of the factors that the IOC looks at, before its members vote for the host city of their choice, is the level of people's support for the bid. - CNA/yb

I doubt so since there is hardly any viewing gallery there, just about 12 courts (?).

Until the Indoor Stadium at the new Sports Hub, Kallang (sits about 5,000), is completed by 2011/12, other than the SIS (for big tournments like the Singapore Open) the next likely place will be the Toa Payoh Indoor Stadium, which has played host to badminton tournaments (like the Satellite) in the past. :)

    Oh sorry i forgot :p

They're good friends. Pras & Pri are coaching (sparring?) with SBA. While A**dian is coaching the kids in Singapore Sports School (if i'm not mistaken). So they lived seperately. With this merge..may be they can live together? Haha!

Oh I see! You do know the 'intimate' details. I suppose Pras & Pri are Indonesians? Never met them yet. By the way why did you spell "A**dian" this way. Male or female coach?

Yeah Pras (Prasetyo) and Pri (Pribadi Setia) are Indonesians. And so is A**dian a.k.a. Ardian Kusnanto. Male coach.

A**dian is a nick me & yannie gave him, but he hates it..lol! :D

Ah, I think I know who A**dian is. I almost called him Adrian. He was introduced to us by one of our Indonesian clubmates before he became SSS coach.

Apparently there will be some changes to the SSS Badminton Academy since the SBA will take over some of the training functions and early next year, the SSS will have a new principal, a distinguished lady, who is now principal of one of Singapore's most prestigious girls' schools, RGS (Raffles Girls' School).

You are right. Ardian is currently coaching the SSS players together with Fanny and a few other coaches. Ardian just played in the Cheers Open narrowly losing to eventual winner Gerald Ho in rubber sets. Ardian is still very solid IMHO.

I understand that Ardian was once in the Indonesian National Team, maybe as reserve. Is this correct?

What about Pras and Pri? Were they national players as well? :)

BTW, don't know whether yannie knows of a certain Stven (?) Pri, a great past champion from Denmark, around Erlan Kops era. :D

    coach.

He's young in 20s and got good speed and reflexes. Lost to him twice I think in the finals of the macpherson open dbl finals (partnering a ex-malaysian national; coach as well), and cheers dbls 4th rnd. Is the macpherson open on again? Alan said, no more ex-nationals; else no match for them.
