Hi guys, I would like to know. If tying my towel grip right to the top(using up the whole grip) like what Sigit Budiarto used to do, affect the balance of my racket? Any idea why he tie it up so high?(other than using it for netplay, pushes) Comments very much appreciated. Thanks guys!:D

tying you grip further up will have a small effect on the balance of your racquet. it'd feel slightly less head heavy because of the grip, but i doubt it'll be very noticeable.

i'm sure the only reason he grips it that high is so that he can hold the racquet higher up and hence maneuvour it faster at the net.

But i do not see many pros doing that, Tony G, wijaya etc... Is this method useful? Anyway, we cant be holding on to the shaft to push or net, am i right to say that? Is it more of a comestic purpose to tie it up so high?

if you watch him when he's receiving a serve (when he's swinging his racquet around - pretty sure that's some sort of foul but nobody minds :)) he grips it very high up. i'm sure it's not cosmetic, what's the point of that for a pro?

speaking of sigit budiarto, he was a player who exerts a fresh air of arrogance on court. it was almost intimidating to see how confident he was when he played.

yeah i have seen some players who grip them that high. i always thought that it was to protect the grip cap from loosening.

i am also very curious......

no it was not a rumor. he was banned in the late 90s for drug. he rebounded and became very successful.

It's for the maneuver speed. Some of the double players, even most of them, will try the same thing as sigit.Dont trust me?See them in most of the videos.Double players needs a good control n speed for the netting n rallies.Someone told me that sigit once said that if u want speed,u hold it up to the shaft. So,that's when ppl tried the same thing,n it worked.

should name it the Sigit Grip then. just like how the illegal serve is unofficially named the S-serve.

I also extended my towel grip to the shaft. Regarding the head balance, I dont notice any difference.

I am also a big fan of Sigit especialy his trick shots. Hope there is a chance that he will come out of retirement and plays again. :)

wah

dont think he hold until shaft.

he will hold until the edge of the cone and shaft. so i guess its cosmetics then.

tying the towel grip up till the shaft will reduce vibration. my guess, Sigit needs some vibration dampener. thus, tied the towel grip till the shaft.
:)

i think he does this because he wants to move the racket flex point higher up, thus giving him more power or its just to make it a little stiff..=/ I think Chandra wraps his grips up like taht as well or atleast not as high..
