I've heard that for bg65 in order to get your strings to be the tension you desire you must get them strung 2 lbs higher because the lose tension blah blah blah. Does this rule also apply for bg80's or any other Yonex strings? Or are bg65s just weird?

well, on the bg80 packet, it says string 10% lower than normal bg65 tension to ensure minimum slack. not actually sure what that means lol

depends. bg65 is best for its low price and durability and overall lasting power.
bg80 is very good for attacking players who like to smash and play fast drops because of its good repulsion power. naturally, its life span is shorter. strings depend a lot on the player. some strings help control players, some help attacking, some just give a good sound.

What tensions are people using on BG-80s? I'm thinking 22lb is good for me (intermediate recreational, decent strength), and would like the string to last for more than two months (6hrs/week). Or maybe just a BG-65 at 23-24lb would suffice, and last a while.

Personally, I am using BG80 @ 23lb for years, and recently increased to 24lbs, as I don't play as often as before, and need to consider the tension loss factor a bit more. ;)

With my own expereince, under the same tension, BG65 lasts at least twice as long as BG80.

agreed, the only reason why people use BG65 is cuz they want to say money or have never tried BG80, because one u go Bg80, u never go back, haha jk but seriously a lot of people don't try it, but BG80 has definitly a better price/performance ratio then BG65 if u want to pay a couple more bucks

BG-80 is great at >24lb. I strung mine at 26lbs and the explosiveness is just amazing especially the sound and power. Highly recommended!

Some (for instance Lin Dan) would say that BG65 is really great...if you use high tension.

    BG80 is the best

BG80 wins hands down - power, comfort, control, sound...anything else that you can think of! Truly no comparison!

the only thing the BG80 would lose to the BG65 is durabilty.

    I tried BG80, I went back to BG65.
BG80 doesn't last as long, for players like me. It will only last a few play sessions, before needing a re-string.
Whereas BG65 will last me about 2-3 weeks of consistent play, before it snaps.
(I don't mind restringing my own equipment every few weeks.
I do mind restringing my own equipment every few days.)

This is your personal preference, not fact.

I have BG65 strung to ~29-32lbs on my racquets, and it plays better for me, than BG80
    .
By your logic, I would say that this makes BG65 an even greater value than the BG80 which costs a few bucks more per packet.

BG80 is a great string, it has play characteristics that help players balance out & enhance their level of play. You do not have to tension it as high as bg65, as it does not stretch nearly as much.

BG65 is a fairly basic no frills string, that offers a predictable bounce from the shuttle; higher durability than other string types, is just a bonus.
This works best for myself, and my level/power.

It's up to the player & their skill to bring that out of the string.

    Different strokes, for different folks.

BG 65 is pretty crappy if it's not strung at tension over 26lbs. For one, it loses tension very fast. BG80, on the other hand, has better feel to it strung under 26lbs. Its durability is weaker when strung at high tension. When you play at a higher tension, BG65 is it. Higher tension tends to improve feedback any string at the cost of durability. BG65 has lots of durability to spare in this regard.

Personally i love BG65's there my favorite string and i will keep using them for a long time to come reason being cause when i string its about 26-27lbs so its perfect for me. I have tried BG80 and when i used those they broke in about 3 hours but my BG65's last me on avergae about 2-4 weeks depending how much i use that racquet. But yeah honestly theres not terribly mucha difference BG80 does feel nice but i like my 65's so much better. Just my opinion.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I have a question. I play with BG65 @ 24lbs after tension loss so maybe 26/27lbs when strung fresh. What should I string BG80 at?

Go for 24lbs and adjust accordingly on later restrings
