Finally, badminton action after a week of break INA's interests in this competition are quite high and we do expect at least 1-2 titles from the Dutch Open. Last year, I think Pelatnas managed 2 titles (Adriyanti Firdasari and Rani Mundiasti/Endang Nursugianti) while Djarum won a title from Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian. The competitions will be from SIN (almost full team here except for Ronald Susilo), ENG (mostly second team, but, they represent a credible threat) and some formidable GER and RUS pairs in the doubles. MEN'S SINGLES R64 Tommy Sugiarto vs Carl Baxter -- should be a breeze for Tommy for the tougher match at night in R16. MEN'S DOUBLES R32 Johannes Schoettler/Tim Dettmann vs Rendra Wijaya/Fran Kurniawan --the Djarum second pair has a tough opener against the more experienced and seeded German player. Can youth and speed beat experience? Dean George/Chris Adcock vs Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki -- this tournament means a lot for Rian/Yoke and I expect them to enter at least the semi-final It will be a tricky opening match for them and I hope they can shrug off the jet-lag and win. WOMEN'S SINGLES R32 Saina Nehwal vs Pia Zebadiah -- Pia was stretched in the qualifiersyesterday, winning marginally 21-19 and 27-25 in the second set to salvage both matches. It will be an upset if she can beat the seeded Saina. Ana Moura vs Adriyanti Firdasari -- I don't think Firda can defend her title this time, with intense competition in the WS field, but, she should at least fulfill her seeding and has a good chance of reaching semi-final. WOMEN'S DOUBLES R32 Shruti Kurian/Jwala Gutta vs Jo Novita/Greysia Polii -- Greysia is finally back and it will be a tricky match for them against the experienced Indian pair. Yulianti/Richi Puspita Dili vs Shinta Mulia Sari/Vanessa Neo Yu Yan -- also a tough match for Yulianti/Richi and I hope they prevail. MIXED DOUBLES R32 Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti vs Andrew Ellis/Joanne Nicholas -- the 30-years old Joanne Nicholas is an experienced doubles player, having won the US Open, and I think the INA pair will lose it based on experience.
What happened to INA Fransisca Ratnasari....lost to a Bulgarian player...in WSQ....?????...FR not playing well lately...sorry for her..
interesting!! MxD Martyn Lewis[WAL] Natalie Munt[ENG] - [SIN] Hendra Wijaya [3] [SIN] Yanmei Jiang 21-17 21-150:271 wat is this??
what is what ? More surpised.. 1. MD seeded 8 Durkin/Sorokina (RUS) lost to unseeded Robert Adcock(ENG) /Emma Manson (Sco) [I never heard this pair before !] 2. Robert Blair (A formidable XD pair with an English Women, Can't really remembered her name) / Immoken Bankier (SCO) - lost to Another RUS pair of Niklolaendo/Vislova In total, Not a good start for the British XD
Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti beat Andrew Ellis/Joanne Nicholas in two tight sets 21-18, 21-17. A good start for our upcoming XD pair. They will face the 4th seed Kristoff Hopp/Birgit Overzier tomorrow for a place in the last 8. A win will be a bonus. As for the Men's Singles R32 match to be played later: Marc Zwiebler vs Tommy Sugiarto -- a tricky match for young Tommy and I hope he can win to set up an interesting encounter with either Anup Sridhar or Yousuke Nakanishi for a place in the quarter-final. Alamsyah Yunus vs Wu Yunyong -- as I mentioned earlier in the other thread, I don't think Alam can beat the more experienced Wu.
Robert Blair used to be paired with Natalie Munt. Anyway, the RUS pair Alexander Nikolaenko/Nina Vislova is always tough to play against.
With no MAS participation in this tourney, its expected that the forum is slightly quiet at the moment Pia Zebadiah is currently having a close match with Saina Nehwal, all square at 18-18 in the first set.
Saina proves her mettle by taking the first set 21-19. However, Pia storms ahead 6-1 in the second set Will this be another 3-sets match for Pia?
Ah...I overlook the club players like Lee Tsuen Tseng and Roslin Hashim Well, the main team is certainly absent.
