hey guys, I've been starting to experience pain in my right knee during training. It's been like that for the past few trainings and the pain gets worse every time.
It could be because I don't have big, strong legs and you all know that badminton stresses joints more than most sports. Which exercises would you recommend?

Have you tried a knee bandage as a support?

No I haven't tried it. I will get one before the next training on Tuesday.
Besides the bandage I'm thinking of something that will help my knee in form of training. I've been reading some articles on the internet and some people recommend cycling to strengthen the muscles surrounding the knees

    I agree with Pete,

I'm not a fan of the "if it hurts, wear a brace" approach...

I had the same problem you had, I was overstressing the patella Tendon because my leg muscle barely handled the load of my footwork.
Squats and 'wallsitting' (anything with my knees >90degrees) did the trick for me.
In the meantime, when it did hurt, I taped up my knees like a patella brace...

Master Jerby doesn't have cartilage issue but I do :( so I have to use a knee brace. And yes, I do quad and ham strengthening.

Knee pain is one of the most popular injury in badminton.Go to a chinese traditional massage centre to get a healing.Play badminton with extra caution, use a proper kneepads, like LP.I got myself a nike, but not really good, since it's changing shape over times. While u're still getting that pain, dont do any exercise, since it'll only make it worse.Try to minimize ur injured knee's activity till it gets better then u can get some exercise..like a proper badminton steps.

oh darn, i think i'm gonna go get my knee checked TODAY. Thanks for all your advices people.
I thought perhaps I could just train my leg muscles, get some massage and that's it. Then again I was afraid I might really mess up my knee by working out my legs. But since some of you insist on visiting a specialist, I'm going to do that.

"popular" :p maybe not the word I would suggest ;)

It is best to consult with medical sports expertice, when having knee-pain.. It is not always rest is the best/only way to cure it.. Often pain can be caused by imbalances of muscle strength and mobility.. varius strength training excercises and also stretching combined with light training, NSAIDs, glucos-amine etc may help to rehab the issues..

    Rest & ice

There are quite a few different problems that are common for the knee. You are correct is saying that badminton stresses the joints, particularly the knees. This is especially true if you are playing on a hard, un-yielding surface or you are using footwear that does not provide suitable cushioning & support.

Almost all knee problems can be helped with rest & ice. Back off the badminton a bit to give your knee time to recover. Icing should be done shortly after exercise and again later in the day. Don't use the ice immediately prior to engaging in exercise.

If inflammation is present then NSAIDs might be warranted. My preference is to use anti-inflammatory herbs instead. Glucosamine would be useful for meniscus and other cartilage issues. If it is meniscus damage, it could take the glucosamine months, even years, to have a lasting effect.

no no no I can't, I have to keep training. I've been off badminton for 3 weeks in September because of my ankle. I'm getting into shape now and I would just hate it to take a break again.

Oh I would settle for inflammation :D Don't even mention meniscus damage please, I don't have years left, I'm 23, It's too late for resting. :) I'm scheduled for a knee examination tomorrow so I'm hoping it's nothing serious
