LCW is Going ! Malaysians stand to win RM125,000 in Top Four Invitational By RAJES PAUL KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's six-member mixed team, led by Lee Chong Wei, stand to pick up a cool RM125,000 if they win the International Top Four Invitational Championships in Foshan, China, from Nov 16-17. The Malaysians are already assured of RM50,000 in appearance fee. And if they win the two-day tournament, which uses the Sudirman Cup world mixed team event format, the Malaysians will pocket another RM75,000. Besides Chong Wei in the men's singles, Malaysia will be represented by Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong (men's doubles), Wong Mew Choo (women's singles) and Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty (women's doubles). Hosts China, the Thomas and Uber Cup champions, have also invited South Korea and Thailand. Chong Wei said that the two-day lucrative tournament would be a good warm-up for him ahead of the China Open. The China Open, which is the 11th leg of the Super Series, will be held in Guangzhou from Nov 20-25. “My name has been listed for the Foshan invitational. It offers good money and it will also be a good platform for me to gauge my knee condition,” said Chong Wei. Despite having a knee problem, Chong Wei powered his way to his third Super Series title in France last week. “My condition is better now. The first two days in training next week will be crucial for me. It will help me make up my mind whether I should go for these tournaments,” said Chong Wei after a training session at the Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara yesterday. “Hopefully, I will be free from it (the knee pain) when I go for these tournaments.” Chong Wei has a tough draw in the China Open. The second-seeded Malaysian has been drawn to meet Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana, the World University Games and Singapore Open champion, in the first round. In the same half of the draw are China's Chen Jin and Indonesians - Simon Santoso and Sony Dwi Kuncoro. Top seed Lin Dan of China has Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia, Denmark's Kenneth Jonassen, Malaysia's Mohd Hafiz Hashim and China's Bao Chunlai in the other half of the draw. “I do not want to go to China and lose in the early rounds. Hopefully, I will have another good outing,” said Chong Wei.
