    I'm a righty player ( I play with my right arm )

And since I restarted badminton 2 months ago, I've been having issues with my wirst and shoulder. If I lift my shoulder sideways, my shoulder would hurt. My wirst would hurt if I move it to the extrem sides..dunno how to say it but it jsut hurts if I move it too much. I've been doing proper wamrups and stretching everytime before I play but that's how the end up after a pratice. I do not feel anything during game time...just before or after I've cooled down...

    Any advice?

my arm hurts also. its tendon inflammation, meaning straining too hard.
Doc said have to do accupuncture and not playing for 1month to recover but i said i cant do it. lol
It seems like i just adapted to use less of the arm and more on the wrist, so it hurt less nowadays.

Whats too difficult to understand, if it hurts, then rest. Thats your body's way of telling you that it had have enough and to push it harder risk making the problem worst. Being a badminton nut myself i KNOW that is hard to do!!!

Maybe somebody can give us tips and exercises to help from preventing and treating the pain in shoulders? I also feel it in the joint. The wrist is from playing incorrectly or not playing for awhile and starting to play again.

Beware. Pain in the shoulder can be a sign of damage in the shoulder joint. This is a common area of badminton injury.

Try to see a sports specialist doctor, a sports physio, or a shoulder specialist.

I had shoulder injury last year. Went to physio for 2 months but didn't help at all. It doesn't hurt if I don't play. I can only play a few games and when it starts to hurt I have to stop. And it'll sore like hell the next morning. Last month, my friend introduced me to Agel. One of its product FLX helps improve joint function and health. It is delivered in a gel suspension, a new innovation especially for those who has trouble swallowing pills. After only taking it for a week, I no longer feel the pain when playing. I also have other badminton friends who took FLX and have experience its benefit. I don't know about everyone else but if there's something that help me take away the pain I don't mind trying cos I really like the sport and it's frustrating when you can't enjoy the game because of injury. I attached the website if anyone is interested to know more. http://www.agel.com/products/science/library

Thanks everyone. I'm new to badminton and as I started enjoying the game, my shoulder pain started. As much as I'm reluctant to stop for a week, yet I think I should heed your advices and rest a few weeks.

yeah i used to have shoulder pain too, but in my case my coach told me it was because my form was slightly wrong, using the wrong muscles and stuff...

I dislocated my shoulder February of last year. I took three weeks off with my arm in a sling, but resumed playing right away against doctor's advice. After a couple of months of not being able to hit properly, nor directly raise my arm overhead straight up, I forced myself to take a month off and do some shoulder bursitis stretching exercises and running (to keep my fitness up).

So if you think a month of not playing is a long time, try to look at it from a different perspective. A month of not playing now is the same as a month of not playing later. Also, if you postpone your rest, you'll be playing now at less than 100% capacity and worse, might worsen your injury.

Just get the rest over with, then do some rotator cuff strengthening exercises to minimize the chance of reinjury.

Thanks Lefty23 :). Will do that... but do you have a pointer to what shoulder exercises would be good in the interim? ..something which can act as a catalyst?

    hurts.

Good advice (hmmmm... sounds like a doctor.).
Again, best advice is from a physio. Can do some brisk swim to loosen up the joints.:D Less impact.

Rest is best. See a specialist.

Like with any new exercises your body will adjust/change to cope with the new stresses. If this is the case, and you're carefull you can probably play through it, however if its an injury you will need to recuperate properly.

I also suffered a dislocated shoulder and torn rotator cuff about 13 years ago. I wish I had surgery back then and maybe I wouldn't have had this permanent damage!! For me, I have to ensure I warm up and down properly, and also do weights 2-3 times a week to keep my shoulder in balance.
Try to keep a good posture, not to let your shoulders roll forwards which can also cause impingement. I have also been told not to work my biceps too much as this shortens the muscle and linking tendon which hooks into the shoulder.

Swimming can also be bad, ie front crawl. Many swimmers suffer the same problem as throwing sports. Its technique again. Enter the water with little finger first saves the shoulder joint a little, as opposed to leading with the index finger which creates more stress on the shoulder.

Badminton is ridiculously hard on your joints; ankles, knees, shoulder and wrist especially. Improper technique and lack of warm up/cool off will inevitably lead to disaster. I learned this the hard way!

Think about every that you need your dominate shoulder (knees, ankle, wrist, etc.) for... Take the rest you need and consult a sports specialist!

Yes I too think (read hope) its not serious ( Or am I using it as an excuse to avoid seeing an Ortho?) - Well after 2 weeks' rest I started playing again and this time its gone a shade further - I could not lift my arm the day after I played for 2 hrs... I tried putting a cold pack and its getting better now - I think I have a little swelling on the shoulder though.
