Hello all. 1- Can someone tell me the appropriate way to do a jumping smash?….Every time I do it…It seems that my hit turned out not to be the smash but long range shot. 2- How to strengthen my arms in order to do a good shot? 3- Sometimes I noticed that my game is not very consistent…For example, a few days ago I played with few of my friends…That day I’m very satisfied with my performance...But a few days later when we played again…I missed a lot of smashed shots and do a lot of simple mistakes…What should I do to keep my consistency? 4- Lastly…Any advices to help me to be a better player…Because I trained alone and I don’t have any coach to train me. Thanks for every responses in advance.
Hi there, I feel perfecting the jump smash is very subjective. The main component in doing a jump smash is the timing, when you jump and hit the shuttle. Using more of your wrist will help in bringing the shuttle down rather than hitting a long range shot. Swing from your right to left, bend your body downwards to follow through. You can find some helpful videos online in youtube to perfect the jumpsmash.
first of all, try to perfect your normal smash before trying to improve on your jump smash. when you can get the right technique, you can start to see improvements in your jump smash. secondly, you have to understand that jump smashes do not win more rallies. jens eriksen rarely does the jump smash but he is a formidable doubles player. thirdly, more than 50% of bad performances are caused by your own thoughts. try to tell yourself that. last but not least, practise a lot. get a more senior player to assess your play if you can (and if you can't get a coach)
Hi llpjlau and Sgbad. Thanks for the words and I will try my best to achieve it.. God bless you then.
For a powerful smash(jumping or standing), the most important thing is that you MUST BE behind the shuttle by about 10cm in order to get a decent angle and power. Any time you try to hit a smash when you are not behind the shuttle enough, you simply won't get as much power, and angle won't be as good as well.
1) Appears that you don't have the right hitting angle with your racquet head. Try smashing from farther behind the shuttle. 2) Go to the weight room. It helps. Alot 3) Play more and keep on practicing 4) Train with others and watch badminton matches either live or on your computer. Trust me, you can learn alot just by watching.
keep on jumping and hantam kuat2 man. U'll get the hang time and rythm. Do it for about 6 months and you'll sampai there.
I TOTALLY AGREE. The day when I played at my club after watching many badminton clips on youtube, my friends asked me whether I had recieved extra coaching or not, because they were really impressed by the way my timing and footwork improved, and also some trick-shots which I'm not really supposed to learn just yet.. But as llpjlau said,
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2762 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIbGK0-iQGA jumpsmash instructional video personally by your description i believe it'd be best if u achieve a certain level of proficiency in the normal (scissors) jump smash first, before attempting to do double leg jumps as shown in the video, as it usually comes quite some time later
i think the side step jump smash is easier than the double leg jump smash. might be unorthodox though.
Hehe thanks guys...I will practice what you all have told me...Thanks for all of the positive responses you gave me.. God bless then
i know a lot of ppl here are listing the technical aspects, but one thing that you should remember is to be confident with your shots (in general). if you think you're smash isnt going to be strong, it's not going to be strong. on a side note, make sure you put your body weight into the shot, meaning that you have to be behind the shuttle when making contact whether it's a jump smash or a standing smash
Thanks alot for the advice mate. Yeah sometimes I can see that when I'm confident I can play alot better...Thx for the word.
