Since I have now got to the stage where I am restringing on a regular basis, I am noticing that certain grommets on Yonex rackets (90% of my trade so far) are usually agape: the ones where knots are tied.

From memory, T8, T6 and H5 are the culprits - can anybody give me a size of Hi-Qua (or other) grommet that will fit these holes? The head grommets on rackets with the AT900 pattern and the NS9000 are noticeably smaller, so I'm expecting to have a least 3 sizes to contend with. I have no vernier or micrometer, so I can't check the grommets on the expired rackets from which I have, so far, been pilfering replacements!

As a suggest, have you looked into getting the Yonex grommet sets?

I have seen Yonex tennis sets - they're packaged on "trees" (like model aeroplane pieces). I have never seen YY badminton sets advertised; I imagine you'd have to contact them directly. Hi-Qua's are almost certainly cheaper and more easily acquired...

    Hi Mark,

Contact the Yonex Auth shop in your area, they can order a set for you. It is about $6~$7 USD. It might be more there.

You can use HQ double string gromment, which is C. However, sometimes you need to use a sharf nail cutter to adjust the length, based on different needs.

Personally, I only use A (single string gromment) and C from HQ, they are good for 95% of the cases. Prepare 1 set of E (MP throat), just in case. ;)

Grommet A and D looks the same (size), B and C looks the same (size). But they only have different lengths. Am i right to say that, mbs doesnt seem to sell Type E.

And btw guys, how do you take out the grommet from a racket. It seems to be so tight. How do you push them out?

    Hi Sgbad,

    On Type E Grommets...

    - MBS does sell the Type E Grommets (as U-Long & U-Short):
    U-Long & U-Short;)

    - Hi-Qua classifies them as Type E:
    Type E;);)

    On removing Grommets...

    - I believe many Stringers in Pro-shops use a Grommet Replacement Tool like/similar to this:
    Grommet Replacement Tool;););)

    - I use:
    (1) A modelling-tool (similar to a badminton awl) to 'lift' (enough of) the (outer) edge of the grommet so it can be 'gripped' by my small (and strong) needle pliers (IF necessary...)
    (2) A pair of needle pliers to pull the grommet out from the outer edge of the frame.
(Easy does it. Apply force gradually. Take care not to damage the frame!!)

    Hope this helps...:):):)

    Well, speak of the devil...

I've just come home with a club player's broken AT800 - good supply of grommets for the foreseeable:D!

My father is going to bring a vernier home from work so that I can measure every grommet that I have access to - then I'll know for certain.

Have a look at this picture. How do you remove these grommets for 2 strings. The grommet is already bigger than the hole on the frame. If you were to replace, how are you going to do so? Since the head of the grommet cant get in too.

    You mean the flared grommets?

    To remove:

Grip tight with needle-nose pliers (from outer-side of frame) and pull steadily. have done it. They come off cleanly & smoothly.
    - To be on the safe side, use the Grommet Removing Tool (That's what they're made for...).;)
    - I don't have one, so that's why I do it the way I do...
    - Will be ordering one soon...:)
(By the way, I experimented on old, discarded steel-frames before doing it on the rackets I restring...)

    Replacement:
I use HQ Type-C, Type-D & U-Long (Type-E). I trim off the excess length after inserting and proceed to string...
    - You might wanna look-up grommet flaring devices if you intend to flare the grommets: "Flare-it";)
    - The original grommets were inserted first, then flared (that's how they got in...););)

    Hope this helps...:):):)
