I have never thought of that until you ask! I did a few tries and found that my left hand fingers are all loosely open up as in normal situation. Actually only the last 3 fingers, i.e. the middle, the ring and the last finger are generally potining towards the shuttle, the thumb and the pointer finger are generally pointing towards the side.

Hmm... not sure if that help finding the shuttle. I only lift up my non-racquet arm for balance purposes during overhead stroke, my arm is bent with fingers relaxed. Pointing or not pointing is a matter of style and preference.
You mean... Actually holding the birdie between your thumb and index. Or having the birdie between your thumb and index in the air.

try the chinese marshal art stance. you know, the one where the non-racquet hand has 2 fingers pointing to the birdie like this (except standing up)
thats me............tho slightly more relaxed..............i put the shuttle between the index and middle fingers.
Try pointing at where you're gonna hit your shot. If it works, point your finger at your opponent for not getting your called shot.
