Hey all ! I need some help from you. Actually, I am 15, and inthe top 20 of the french 15-16 years old players. Actually, I think I m pretty good at every shots of badminton, good footwork. And I don't know what I should train more. I do many physical training every weeks and I ll still do that in the next years. But, in badminton, what do you think I have to train ? Footwork seems to be a very important thing ? I play MD, MX and singles, but I prefer singles. ( sorry for my poor english, I m french and 15 ) Thx for your help ! Arceid
I think when you are in the top 20 you should have a good coach... Why don't you ask him? He knows your problems and what you should train more. Nobody in this forum can REALLY help you.
The specifics of what you need to train are always training. Develop your awareness of what needs to be trained, then use that awareness to guide your training.
I agree with the two above. However, as you said: footwork. The more you do it, the better you'll be at it, and tough footworkdrills are good stamina training as well.
U can try doing some jump smash to increase your hang time, power and kill shots faster. Go and play with more senior players and it'll help you to improve more. You'll sure learn a lot of new thing with seniors. merci.

In france, the badminton isn't really a know sport, so be in the top 20 when you are young is not really hard. So actually, I only have coaches when I do tournaments. And my trainer doesn't see my in tournaments. I wanted to ask you just to know what young people should improve first when they begin to play with seniors .
Your trainer can't help you because he doesn't see you in tournaments? We can't see you AT ALL! So we can't help you at all! In the first post you say: all my strokes and my footwork are good! ) So... You should record a match of yourself and watch it and/or post it somewhere here in the forum...
Si possible jouer avec quelqu'un plus vieux ou plus habile car il te forcera de jouer plus fort et tu deviendras plus bon. Aussi comme mentionner chercher de l'aide de ton entraîneur et pratique ton jeux mental aussi comme la technique, la tactique, etc. Bonne chance! .

Racist? A little exaggerated, no? Anyway, for me, routines are important. Say, you do footwork one training, then physical the next. And then you can work on your strokes on another training. No matter how good you are, top 20 or not, there's room for improvement. Do footwork drills and time yourself. Then aim to beat that time. Place a box at a of the opposite court and try to consistently hit a certain amount of shuttles in, training your accuracy. Aim to get a higher number of shuttles into the box as you train more. Slowly increase resistance level when you do weights training. Of course, you should try to get good sparring partners to play with you on a regular basis and let you apply your training in games. You should also work on the mental aspect of your game; confidence, intimidation, etc. IMHO, Yoga helps me improve my focus.v Just my 2 cents worth. Hope that helped!

Actually, I think that in a badminton match, I have too much stress on me, even at practice, so I can't concentrate on my footwork. What do you do to be more concentrated on your footwork than on the guy you are playing against ? I m trying to relax myself before the match, by a listening music and move my legs, but it doesn't work well. Another thing is that I cannot concentrate myself on what I should do when returning the shuttle. I mean, I think I have pretty godd shots, but I don't use them well. How to work on that ? Arceid
You've got it backwards. You shouldn't have to think about footwork while playing, you should be focusing on the game.
