As much as I could gather: (Predicted winner listed first) MS (pretty straightforward predictions) Taufik v Yeoh KB Nguyen TM v Poompat Boonsak v Sathien (Laos) Kendrick v Kuan BH Taufik v Boonsak final WS (all pretty tough) Lydia Cheah v Soratja Li Li v Firdasari Julia Wong v Salakjit Maria Kristin v Xing AY Hard to predict: Possibly all-Indo final, or all-MAS final, or even all-SIN final; Salakjit can enter final but I doubt Soratja can MD Kido/Setiawan v PRAPAKAMOL/NGENSRISUK Gan TC/Lin WF v Tran/Nguyen Wijaya/Saputra v Latif/Khoo Gunawan/Riyadi v PANVISAVAS/ANUGRITAYAWON All-Indo final, but other pairs can spring surprises on their on days WD Jiang/Li v Goh LY/Ng HL Marissa/Natsir v Nguyen/Vu (Vie) Kunchala/partner v Phi/Phung (Vie) Novita/Polii v Wong PT/Woon KW All-Indo final no sweat XD Widianto/Natsir v Wijaya/Jiang Sudket/Saralee v Latif/Ng HL Saputra/Li v Tan WK/Woon KW Limpele/Marissa v Asuncion/Asuncion All-Indo final but watch out for homesters Sudket/Saralee
It's great to see Kendrick doing well and improving. he has the advantage of still being a work -in-progress so opponents can't tell his game yet. The other Kendrick edge is he has no respect or fear for his opponent. Sony losing to KL is not surprising;that's probably the cumulative effect of 3 consecutive tournaments whereas KL skipped both CO and HKO so he's absolutely fresh. KBH should also be rather fresh. KBH is not bad;the last time I saw him play was SO07 vs CY.I enjoy his game. If he has fixed his fitness/stamina and attitude, he can still spring a surprise.Let's hope it's gonna be a good match.
Matches involving Team INA MEN'S SINGLES QF Taufik Hidayat [1] vs Yeoh Kay Bin -- with Sony losing to Kendrick Lee Yen Hui in the first round, Taufik is INA's only hope for a Gold in MS. He should beat Yeoh Kay Bin tomorrow. With Ronald Susilo injured, his next opponent should be Nguyen Tien-Minh. MEN'S DOUBLES QF Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan [1] vs Sudket Prapakamol/Phattapol Ngensrisuk -- any match involving Sudket is always interesting. This one could go to another rubber-set as in the Team Event. Songphon Anugritayawon/Tesana Panvisvas vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Joko Riyadi [2] -- yet another rematch and AG/Joko should prevail again. WOMEN'S SINGLES QF Li Li [3] vs Adriyanti Firdasari -- Li Li has beaten Maria Kristin yesterday and given Firda's inconsistent form, I think Li Li will prevail. Xing Aiying vs Maria Kristin Yulianti [2] -- a tough match for Maria and she needs to be at her best to beat the young Singaporean player. WOMEN'S DOUBLES QF Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir [4] vs Nguyen/Vu -- a breeze for Vita/Butet Jo Novita/Greysia Polii vs Wong Pei Tty/Woon Khee Wei -- with Chin Ee Hui injured, I think Jo/Greysia will take this one. MIXED DOUBLES QF Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir [1] vs Hendra Wijaya/Jiang Yanmei -- the top seed should win it. Kennevic Asuncion/Kennie Asuncion vs Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa [2] -- ditto.
MS Taufik v Yeoh KB - Yeoh has no chance in hell ...... :crying: Nguyen TM v Poompat - boogieman Nguyen is too good, showed good form in team event Boonsak v Sathien (Laos) - hosts no 1 get a practically guaranteed medal, not that he doesn't deserve it. Kendrick v Kuan BH - closest of the 4 matches, giant killer Kendrick has a point to prove, Kuan has nothing to lose. WS Lydia Cheah v Soratja - tough for Lydia, has better skills but prone to mistakes. Plus, Sorajta is on home soil Li Li v Firdasari - the way Firda is playing, it's time to say sayonara to her title Julia Wong v Salakjit - 50-50, Julia in great form, Salakjit out to redeem her pride with crowd backing. Maria Kristin v Xing AY - Maria just has a bit of an edge, but if the game extends, expect the outcome to favour Xing MD Kido/Setiawan v PRAPAKAMOL/NGENSRISUK - difficult battle for World Champs, but should still pass through. Gan TC/Lin WF v Tran/Nguyen - MAS get one guaranteed medal, not that they really deserve it (based on their display against Singapore) Wijaya/Saputra v Latif/Khoo - SIN No 1 show MAS youngsters a trick or two Gunawan/Riyadi v PANVISAVAS/ANUGRITAYAWON - INA out to ensure all INA final WD Jiang/Li v Goh LY/Ng HL - SG pair just too strong, MAS pair not seasoned yet Marissa/Natsir v Nguyen/Vu (Vie) - INA steamroll past the opposition Kunchala/partner v Phi/Phung (Vie) - THA pair take it, but that's as far as they go Novita/Polii v Wong PT/Woon KW - INA to win, but expect a fight from MAS scratch combination XD Widianto/Natsir v Wijaya/Jiang - World Champs take it, probably with some difficulty if their form fluctuates like in HK Final Sudket/Saralee v Latif/Ng HL - flamboyant Sudket unleashes cluster bombs at hapless MAS youngsters Saputra/Li v Tan WK/Woon KW - the other MAS youngsters try to fight back, with no avail Limpele/Marissa v Asuncion/Asuncion - INA veterans have too much class
Umm..little bit worry about Thai players, because their national coach, Mr. Atik Jauhari may be very familiar with Indonesian style...
Can someone enlighten me... if the players make it to the semi-finals, are they assured of at least a bronze medal or do they have to fight for 3rd/4th placing if they lose in the semi-finals? Many thanks.
Yes, they get guaranteed bronze. Same rule as Asian Games. But not the Olympics, you must fight for bronze .....
you all can see in http://www.2007seagames.com/Competit...9/Default.aspx it's now showing judo live!!!!
First results in - XD Nova/Lilyana beat Hendra/Jiang 21-15,21-12 Sudket/Saralee and Saputra/Li have taken the 1st game against their respective MAS youngster opponents Flandy/Vita have won their match, but dunno the score.
Hmm, tough match for Nova/Lilyana tomorrow against home pair Sudket/Saralee meanwhile Flandy/Vita will face SIN XD Hendri Kurniawan Saputra/Li Yujia.
Yes, but we have seen that the tougher the matches, the stronger the mentality to go all the way to the title ........ Not like a certain party which does with w/o, injuries or "exhibition matches".
First great news for MAS badminton in the SEA Games - Julia has beaten Salakjit 21-16, 21-12, in so doing, avenging WMC's loss in the HK Open. Very good form indeed .......
All I know is that Firda has a sexy smile and she likes to smile at me. Thus, I hope she will win! Maria Kristin is the most technically competent of all these Southeast Asian competing this week [WMC not included]. Unless she is feeling really down or unmotivated, she can defeat anybody here!
I concur with your assesment of Maria Kristin's competency, but I feel a sexy smile at you will not be enough for Firda. The smile doesn't even work all the time with Gao Ling ...... Seen Firda's performance 2 years ago, there has been hardly any improvement after that. Maria and probably even Pia has leapfrogged past her. Is she tense? Felt as if she was playing with a lot of weight on her shoulders ......
An extremely tight battle between Lydia and Soratja ended with a 3 game thriller, Soratja won 21-23, 26-24, 21-18. Good for THA to have a WS semifinalist to take Salakjit's customary place, and good also to see Lydia going down fighting ..... just a bit more experience and we can have 3 reasonably strong WS.
