Roslin leads way in Taiwan

2008/09/13
VETERAN Roslin Hashim outplayed Chen Hong of China to lead the way as two Malaysian back-up pairs and women's singles Lydia Cheah all advanced to the semi-finals of the Taiwan Open yesterday. Roslin, the seventh seed, defeated former World No 1 Chen Hong 21-19, 16-21, 21-12 to reach his first semi-final in a grand prix event since 2006.
He now has the opportunity to take a step closer to winning the title as he will be meeting Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh who beat Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto 21-12, 21-7, in the last four today.
Young pair Razif Latif-Tan Wee Kiong, playing in only their third tournament as a pair, defeated Indonesia's Hendra Wijaya-Yoga Ukikasa 21-18, 21-16 in the quarter-finals.
Razif-Wee Kiong, who also reached the semi-finals of the Singapore Open in June, will take on top seeds Carsten Morgensen-Mathias Boe of Denmark today.
The hardworking Hoon Thien How-Ong Soon Hock, ranked World No 67, edged another Indonesian pair Hendra Gunawan-Joko Riyadi 17-21, 21-18, 26-24 to earn their berth in the last eight.
The result helped Thien How-Soon Hock set up a repeat of the Indonesia Open semi-final against Candra Wijaya-Tony Gunawan, which the Indonesian-American combination won, today.
Lydia defeated Mayu Sekiya of Japan 21-18,17-21, 21-13 to reach the semi-finals of a grand prix event for the first time in her career.
Coach Rashid Sidek, in a telephone interview from Taipei, said Roslin has good chance of advancing to the final.
"Lydia has done very well in this competition but she must continue battling.
"She has a 50-50 chance of reaching the final as her opponent Chiu Yi Ju (of Taiwan) is a steady player," said Rashid.
"Roslin, after beating Chen Hong, has a better chance against Nguyen."
KLRC Bhd's Lee Tsuen Seng found the going tough and fell 17-21, 15-21 to top seed Simon Santoso of Indonesia in the last eight. ...........................(results)...........

And one more question.
Arif, Razif, and Zakry, they're siblings (Abdul Latif Bros.)?
-
09-13-2008, 07:09 AM #386
YES, Zakry=25=oldest of the 3, MD specialist. Razif =23 according to one BCer who knows them, MD & XD. Arif =19, MS specialist => the Abdul Latif brothers.
They have a sister in back-up squad, her age between Arif & Razif, forgot her name, she was Zakry's XD partner in Penang Open.
Btw, why you asking?? To compare with Indonesia players??

I see. Thank you for the answer.
Abdul Latif's sis, you mean Nairul Suhada?
It's nothing important. Just curious, since they have exactly similar last name.
So, not only INA have siblings in the national team (Kido, Bona, and Pia). MAS has it too.
Plus, during Penang Open, I saw many players having similar surnames, e.g:
Mohd. Roslin Hashim,
Muhd. Hafiz Hasim (these 2 we know well),
Muhd. Hafifi Hashim,
Mohd. Hafizi bin Hashim,
Muhamad Hashim, and
A'amar bin Hashim.

Anyone of them is brother of Roslin & Hafiz?
